Yeah, the only way pansexual makes sense, to me at least, is if bisexual excludes feminine presenting men and masculine presenting women, but I don’t see why it should. I feel like pan was just created either to make certain people feel like they’re being more inclusive than just normal bi people, or to make bi people feel like they’re being exclusive.

A lot of the gender and sexual orientation language of recent times is good and removes ambiguity. Some of it though, like pan, feels like people just treating it as a contest.

  • I know I at least read Animal Farm and To Kill a Mockingbird when I was younger. I wonder how much those ended up influencing me. At the time I wouldn’t have totally agreed with them, and I don’t remember them having a particularly large influence, but they probably did affect me without me knowing. However, I also watched a lot of sci-fi and Star Trek, which probably had an even greater influence.

I wish there was a way to analyze our past and pick apart what effect different things had. It’d be really fun to know. I think when you consume something that you think really changes you, you were already primed for that change before. A lot of things lead up to that moment that you don’t even recognize.

For me, and probably 99.99% of Lemmy users, sure. I was talking to the daughter of a family friend recently (somewhere around 16yo), and her dad uses Linux (not for gaming), and I asked what she used. She said Windows, because “you can’t game on Linux.” I asked what she played, because almost every game works fine, and she said Fortnite. She’s in a family where one of the parents at least is anti-Windows, but she can’t really switch because of that game. I’d much rather it worked with Linux so those kids wouldn’t be left out if they switch. The alternative is them just not switching, which is worse.

  • I got a free game on Epic at one point that had it. It runs, but changing Proton versions makes it view it as a new machine, and it’ll eventually stop you from playing. I think it’s time limited, so eventually you can continue.

Basically, you’re gambling that the game runs fine with whatever Proton version you start with, or you may be in for a bad time. I don’t recommend it.

No you aren’t. There are a million ways you could handle this that don’t require a web view. Saying that means anything that retrieves any information from a server needs one. All it needs to do is retrieve the information that needs to be displayed from a server. I don’t know what all they serve through it, but it could easily provide the text and images needed without a web view.

  • Sure, but if you think the entire French resistance was organized then you don’t really know what you’re talking about. There were plenty of individual acts. Insisting it must be organized, and then insisting that it must meet a certain level of organization, is only insisting that nothing is allowed. All revolution requires a certain amount of disorganization, or everything is centralized and is easy to topple.

Also, nothing in the above said for it to be unorganized. You previously only insisted acting outside the justice system is wrong, and now you’ve stepped back from that stance. It’s progress I guess, but you don’t see the bigger picture yet.

The media’s “all violence is evil” propaganda insists that the state has a monopoly on violence. They’re allowed to use it to keep us in line, but we can’t use it to keep them in line. The reality is that there should be no solid line. Every individual will have a certain tolerance and threshold for violence. Literally no one is at zero for both. Everyone knows violence must be used sometimes, but they disagree on when and by whom.
