Honestly, even this post reads like it is AI generated. Images on the website look straight out of Midjourney. Lemmy instance popped up looks like 1 day ago and is filled with likely AI posts… I would not be surprised if 100% of this is all just outputs from some LLM, the OP’s name included. Like someone’s “agent” is just running amok.

What is your refresh rate and what FPS are you getting? I’ve never met anyone that wanted to see screen tearing, so this is new… But you have to be getting FPS that outruns your refresh rate to get any tearing, usually by a lot.

I’ve basically never ran vsync or freesync or any of those things, but I haven’t actually seen screen tearing in years because high refresh rate monitors have become basically the norm (outside of office buildings). The FPS needed to cause the tearing is a higher bar to clear, and if there is tearing it is on the screen for such a small fraction of a second you aren’t likely to notice it.

What’s crazy is the replies in the updates… Like, they are trying to spin it that they weren’t making a joke, they are 100% serious about not wanting to offend the clankers because “AGI Is right around the corner”.

You can get really good performance in a VM if you can pass-through a GPU, which is a lot of tom-foolery or a second dedicated GPU since you can’t have it passed through and working for your host OS at the same time. BUT, most anti-cheat is going to either block the game from running in a VM or just ban you outright for trying to “bypass” the anti-cheat.

All of this is even dumber when you realize EAC (which Epic makes) has Linux compatibility that other games use, but Epic specifically chooses to not allow in their games. I really think it is because they know it would only help the Steam Deck and Tim Sweeney really hates Valve.

Doubt the graphics is going to keep up in WinBoat enough to be playable, but even if it has improved that much in 3 months, it still isn’t going to make the anti-cheat work in a VM.

Unfortunately, the best experience I’ve found (without installing windows on bare metal) for something like this is one of those game streaming services like geforce now or xbox game pass. You point your browser somewhere and play it with a bit of input lag. But both of those companies suck a whole lot, so I stopped using them (and I heard game pass is going to limit you to some absurd low number of hours per month, even on the top tier of game pass).

Its sort of akin to there being an AI slop festival at your local community event center; that doesn’t mean the city is promoting it, someone has just signed up (maybe paying?) to use that space.

The “curator” in question has a meager 22 followers. This post has likely driven more traffic to their “sale” than Valve has.

I think you are confused with Tim Sweeney. Valve has been pushing for transparency around AI use in game production. Epic has been the store really pushing to hide it (so much that Tim got mad at Valve for not hiding it).

I love LibreOffice.

My only complaint using it every day at work is [a complaint against microsoft] how much my company uses microsoft products (but won’t shell out for office licenses for 90% of staff) and microsoft purposefully makes their shit not display or read Libre files correctly to try to keep their grubby monopoly claws dug into everyone.

My IT staff is too stupid to send announcements out to a BCC list and causes reply-all waves about once a month so I am not holding out hope that we make any progress as a company towards smart computing.

Plates don’t come with the cars here. Individuals go and get plates after they buy a new car. Hell, in a lot of places now, the plate follows the person and not the car when it gets sold used…
