The courts still need to weigh in on this. If you purchase a license to use the software, the company shouldn’t have the power to revoke that license without cause. The license should last as long as the copyright/patent/etc. does.

Everyone forgets Goddard. He invented what the German scientists perfected after a lot of government investments. The US didn’t want to go that way with Rocketry, until the world saw the Germans make it work.

Their competition (Nintendo and Steam) already don’t have physical media. Nintendo is moving towards 100% Game Key cards, and Steam is all downloads. Playstation could have used physical media as a competitive advantage, but decided against it for cost reasons. So now this is the end of gaming physical media. The game sizes are just way too large.
