I literally just finished doing this over the weekend. I went with fedora since I find it more stable and easier to use than the other distros plasma bigscreen works on. There have been a few bugs when using a controller but other than that it works great! I highly recommend it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can I best help prevent people from committing suicide?
10·9 days agoIf there’s someone in your life that you feel is slipping into that trap, show them that you care. And I don’t mean tell them that you care, show them. When I was in that pit words were utterly meaningless. People say kind things all the time that they don’t actually mean. But when my mom showed up to my door at 2 am, worried because I didn’t return her texts that day, I felt that. I felt that through the numbness of depression and SSRIs.
Ultimately though, as the other poster said, it was up to me whether I kept going or not. The thing that helped me was going out to get breakfast alone on Saturday morning. Feeling the sun on my skin, watching the birds, and eating a good meal eventually helped me come around. That, and getting away from the situation and people that caused the depression in the first place.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You've just won a competition and now a major game developer has to make whatever game you want for free. No compromises. Your vision. Period. What game do you make?
14·18 days agoA hardcore dinosaur survival game. You’re a primitive human on a randomly generated island full of dinosaurs. Your only weapons are spears, clubs, bows, etc., no guns. You can’t have the dinos as mounts or pets, you are trying to survive them in their domain. The goal is to survive and build a base that can provide you with enough protection to continue surviving while exploring the mysteries of the island where you can. I imagine it would be quite difficult to do this.
Ooh, I’d love something like this too. There’s a creepypasta community but it doesn’t have frequent posts unfortunately.

Linux@programming.dev•Finally done with the distro-hop: My return to Fedora
1·2 months agoI honestly think it’s the best distro so far. Which sucks since it is so reliant on RedHat. I prefer to avoid corporate related distros like Fedora and Ubuntu, but I must admit they have a better experience right out of the box. I still want to give NixOS a try and maybe Gentoo, but after that I will probably come back to Fedora just like you…until something I think might be better comes along.
I’m not implying that at all. And what’s with the personal attack??? Talk about implying. I’m saying that in order to find a good relationship we should learn how to recognize and potentially put aside these sexual preferences in favor of seeing a person for who they really are. Most women prefer taller men. The height doesn’t make them better partners.
Sexual preference is inherently selfish though. I’m not shaming it just calling it what it is.
There is no ideal height combo. You should enter into a relationship with a person because you like who they are as a person. Height preferences are purely selfish sexual interests.
No way! An authentic Yupoong.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does Lemmy feel hostile and/or insular to you?
8·3 months agoHostile, not that I have seen. Insular, possibly. Lemmy is much smaller than Reddit (which I personally enjoy) so it can seem like somewhat of an island. It’s kind of inevitable to find know-it-all’s in a thread based platform like this, unfortunately. I would imagine most people on here are very tech savvy and we tend to have a more nitpicky way of socializing/viewing the world. In the few years I’ve been here Lemmy has grown tremendously though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you have any movies that you rewatch at a specific time of year?
12·3 months agoNice. I always watch during the fall when the air turns crisp and I’ll pair it with a hard apple cider.

Technology@lemmy.world•Fox Is Buying Roku in $22 Billion DealEnglish
9·3 months agoSame. I’m currently doing the mini PC media center. It’s nice but I don’t see my family doing something like that. It’s a bit too expensive and less plug and play than a $40 Roku/Chromecast unfortunately.

36·3 months agoI’ve been really happy with buying a ~$200 mini PC and putting OPNsense on it. You just have to make sure it has two Ethernet ports. OpenWRT is another great option if you don’t have the money for that.

1·4 months agoAnd this right here is exactly why I chose Jellyfin. If it’s owned by a company it will just get worse over time.

It’s not a bad set up at all. There are some additional codecs you will want to get if you have an Nvidia GPU, but there are plenty of guides on that.
Bazzite is an atomic distro with a focus on gaming and based on fedora silverblue. I’m currently running it on my main gaming rig and it’s very nice. It is more complete out of the box than fedora but installing something like bigscreen will probably be more difficult. Although, I bet it’s possible. I haven’t tried to figure it out though.
