Using a distro that’s a derivation of arch is perfectly fine. Cachy does all the configuration for you. SteamOS runs on arch aswell and is absolutely targeted towards non-technical people.

Plain arch does nothing of that. You have to install every package yourself. Want a network connection? You need something like NetworkManager for that. Wdym, a desktop? You have to install that. Oh, you don’t want your desktop to start via something like startx in the CLI? Well, you better go take a look at something like lightdm or sddm.

Most non-technical people that have no interest in learning that will not be able to use arch properly.

Good news, if you don’t understand that comparison, you shouldn’t use arch linux.

You don’t have to, no. But you should. Not understanding how a system works that you fundamentally completely set up yourself is setting you up for massive failure. That’s like using unreal engine and only relying on blueprints without understanding C++.

If you want Arch without knowing shit about arch, there’s plenty of distros you can use. Stop trying to be cool. Pick something that fits your use case.

It’s generally never a problem. The only time where it does become a problem is if the game doesn’t run on proton immediately as every time you switch the proton version, it counts as a new system and you will quickly run into a 5 game activiations per day limit.

However, if it works without tinkering, it has never been an issue for me. But then again, I don’t buy a lot of denuvo-affected games. I think RE9 and Pragmata shipped with Denuvo, and those were the last AAA games I played, and both of them worked flawlessly.

Depends on the country I guess. In germany and austria, you can’t legally live in a location that doesn’t tick certain checkboxes, even if you’re living there willingly. You need stuff like sewage, water, electricity and a bunch of other (often nonsensical) things, and even if you own a piece of land in the middle of nowhere and you build a cabin and - somehow - tick all those boxes, if the land isn’t zoned for living (meaning it’s agricultural, industrial or something like that), living there is legally impossible and you’re living in 24/7 threat that your home is taken away. And most european country I’m somewhat familiar with have similar rules.

You can’t escape LLMs. The pandoras box is open. They will never disappear again, even if anthropic, openAI, google and meta are sucked into a black hole tomorrow (an event that I would celebrate big time), LLMs would still exists and be here. Instead of trying to avoid anything LLM-made, you should try to escape bad and abusive LLM projects. So no OpenAI, anthropic etc, and no shitty big tech LLMs in general.

At the end of the day, I don’t think you will find a distro that is truly AI free. In general, you will most likely not find SOFTWARE that is truly AI free.

I don’t think so. I got no sources or anything, but I think most nuclear missile silos and their software predate the linux kernel. And since we don’t really build nuclear weapons anymore but stick with the ones we already have, I don’t think that the linux kernel is really used in these kinds of sites.

However, that’s me guessing - wouldn’t say that I’m even 50% confident.

Arch was the “elite” distro. Most people who weren’t already very comfortable with the terminal were even able to use arch properly. Stuff like archinstall didn’t exist back then and those that did were way inferior than what we have today. So using arch was like a “badge of honor” of sorts for many people who thought using it made them superior to disgusting ubuntu or mint users with their GUI installer.

It’s just classic gatekeeping that you’ll see in basically everything that comes with a passionate community.
