Use of data-intensive technologies – in particular artificial intelligence (AI) data centres – is growing faster than electricity infrastructure can handle, the UN’s economic commission for Europe has warned, raising concerns about the future reliability and resilience of energy systems worldwide.

Just last week Altman was saying that a single trip to the market consumes the same energy as like 500 prompts. A fairer comparison would be against tokens, as some people do text prompts while others are generating code, images, or video.
If it was that cheap the subscription would be in the range of a streaming service.
