There may be evidence of some ‘recursive self-improvement’ in research models rigged to modify and re-evaluate themselves, but it’s still only in very tight, limited knowledge areas. This isn’t SkyNet.
Exactly. They have no ‘moat’ in vulture-capital-speak. So they’re now trying to buy one via lobbyingbribes, legislation to cement their leading position. This is also why they’ve bought up all the RAM and SSD storage for the rest of this decade, to make the next gen of PCs and GPUs unaffordable for everyone else. This is phase two of forcing everyone into the cloud; a war against home computing.
Best responses so far in this thread. People need to stop calling these ‘whatever’-intelligence engines. They’re NOT INTELLIGENT. They are probabilistic text-synthesizers. Stochastic Parrots. Or one of many other terms people have begun using, any of which are much more accurate and do not incorrectly assign ‘intelligence’, agency or motivations to what is still only an algorithm. One with ‘temperature’ (randomness) parameters thrown in, to jiggle the retrieved phrasing of sentences somewhat, and so on.
The reason these things always ‘hallucinate’ (some are advocating we drop that term as well, and simply say the algorithms yield incorrect results) can NOT be fixed, as it’s a side-effect of the fundamental way they synthesize their answers.

Great info. I only vaguely recall seeing some youtube videos or something showing that DVD or Bluray lasers could damage CCDs, but it was almost certainly in a desktop-lab situation, at a range of only a few meters. Inverse-square law strikes again!

I think someone needs to develop a portable, focusable beam-EMP device. So, you know, those soft, vulnerable electronics inside certain devices can be disabled remotely, invisibly, without such the need for inelegant tools such as angle-grinders and box-cutters.
I’d also say re-used Bluray/DVD lasers to burn out the camera CCD, but that would need to be done very carefully, only angling from above, to avoid risk to aircraft and definitely care to avoid any people nearby.
(I wonder if Flock cameras have some sort of laser-filtering on their lenses?)
Do Flock Camera towers use aluminum in any critical, ground-accessible parts? I hear mercury does nasty things to aluminum. But it’s also toxic so would need to be handled carefully.

Sure, but lots of people thought it was crazy conspiracy thinking that the NSA backdoored certain Elliptic Curves CSPRNGs years ago… yet it turned out they in fact did, and successfully, and it took years to come out. Whether or not some ‘threat model’ applies to the situation.
The chances of a normal person being targeted by some obscure NSA backdoor is very low, certainly; but that doesn’t refute the historical fact that they do try to subvert standards processes.
