The biggest danger of AI is not that it hallucinates more than someone tweaking on meth. But that people dumb and tweaking on meth with too much power will take what it says as gospel. Your liable to make the people in the marketing Departments of these AI companies cum with how badly misrepresenting what these AI are capable of. The same AI that some companies fire their workforces for and are now humiliatedly hiring them back. Because the AI wasn’t capable of what it was sold as.

Interesting. Today I learned. The last new laptop I bought for myself was in the late 90s at the local micro center. Sporting an AMD k6-2. My current one has an AMD iGPU. I’ll have to keep this in mind if I ever get lucky enough to find a good deal on a used laptop with a dedicated or discreet GPU.

I can’t answer the laptop issue specifically. I have two desktops with Nvidia in it. And it runs fine apart from one of them being out of date of the official drivers. It’s not nearly the hassle it was a decade ago. AMD is always easier generally. But these days Nvidia is pretty stable as well. Especially if you have a modern 20+ series card supported by their current drivers

Because the people submitting the code are to be held responsible as always. If you are using Claude gemini or whoever and submit its code without checking. And you fuck something up that is on you, and you will be held responsible. Is how it should be.

People are going to use it if they want to. And realistically there isn’t a lot that you can do to stop it all. They’ll just start using it without attribution. There is no automated system that will be able to stop it. And policing it manually will do nothing but bogg down the current maintainers allowing them to accomplish even less.

If someone is submitting a lot of problematic slop code they don’t understand. They will be booted from the project like any other bad maintainer.

Yes it could be anything. I have an old 6th generation i7 system. That’s more than powerful enough for most things even some reasonable gaming. However currently under arch for instance. Power management is totally possible. But not done automatically. Every time I reboot it sets itself to power save by default. And I just haven’t really been bothered enough to go read up on how to permanently change the default. So what ends up happening is I’ll do a reboot every so often and then all the sudden things are running dramatically slower than they should be. Then I slap myself on the forehead go tweak the power profile and it’s all good again. And it legitimately could be something as simple as that. On a newer ryzen system, the exact same distribution of just the power profiles automatically perfectly. Needless to say if there’s anything remotely CPU bound that will definitely have an impact.

Ah that’s fair yeah. It’s getting better. But without some sort of system where a flat pack can request the permissions that it needs at install or runtime. It’s far from where it should be. Trivial to do with an app like flat seal. But that’s not typically installed out of the box. It’s all command line by default and very obtuse to the average user.

That would make it worse. Then it would only be usable on systems based off of canonical. Not even debian. Snap does have a few small technical benefits over something like flat pack currently. But if you want to just package it and run it anywhere. Flat pack is the go-to

I know right? This is literally what flat pack was meant to address. Just package has push it and let any system use it. So it is a little more complicated and another step on top of everything.
