Keigo modifiers. ご覧 vs 見る. They both mean “look”. One is, somehow, more polite.

Kansai dialect. しばいたろか (“wanna get smacked?” but it’s playful) or まいど (“thanks” but also “nice to see you again” and “hello” but only in specific contexts between specific people. Mess it up and you’ll probably hear the other Kansai term previously described.)

An idea for a game I had as a kid before I realized such limitations existed was a game where you start from the earliest parts of prehistory, and you are Death. The Grim Reaper. Shinigami. HE WHO TALKS LIKE THIS. However you want to slice it.

From the beginning, you decide who lives and who dies, and the manner of their demise; your choices would influence the course of history not only based on who is left living, but also the way that people died would influence future cultural or historical or societal developments. For example, a beloved public figure dying of cholera might encourage more medical research.

Possibly, advances in medical technology or safety measures could thwart or balk you, although I would prefer to take the angle that death can never be denied and is inevitable.

This would not work as a video game because there would simply be too many branching timeline possibilities for one, and for two, there’s not really a win state. It would be more like a sandbox or ant farm.

But what relation does a game about stealing have with an anime about drill-wielding robots?

I wonder where I could find more members of the club. I should try searching “motherless”!

Sometimes you just tell yourself “time is passing, no matter what I do. Eventually it will be enough, even if I do nothing.”

I just can’t imagine the kinds of scenarios that are implied. Such as the “if I sent this to you by accident” thing, like…in this imagined scenario, would the response be “oh, well, since I accidentally got a naked picture of you, let me hit that?” For me it would just be embarrassing for all around, even if by some stroke I did find the other person hot.

Yeah the urge to be a jerk is kinda there just to see what they’d say but you’re right, it’d be unkind

Is it still really a win for them here on Lemmy where such algorithms are, to the best of my knowledge, non-existent?

It would probably take some massive PE/VC enforced changes at Valve where they start to enshittify Steam and the loss of confidence in the platform that will follow to make the other platforms competitive.

Make no mistake, it’s coming eventually. I held off on trusting discord for years buy finally they won me over. Now look where we are.

Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness.

It is not to my tastes anymore, but at the time when I was very swept up in it, it was truly an immersive and transformative experience. As a piece of art, I feel that it was a tremendous success.

It is one of Richard Wilbur’s best poems, and since it’s so accessible, I often use it to introduce students to poetry as an art form.
