Google deciding to continue using a dataset that has been completely captured by a megalomaniac at the head of an authoritarian regime is on them. I cannot stress enough that they do not have to use GNIS, as evidenced by all the other map apps that, y’know, don’t.

Trump is not a king, and outside of the executive branch, his executive orders have no binding power.

Google et. al. Are, last I checked, not part of the executive branch, and are under no obligation to abide by Trump renaming bodies of water.

They’re doing it because they want to. Because they know it will make Trump happy.

That noble act of service deserves to be a tax write-off of some sort.

One of the first things your first job (or if you are unlucky, your first few jobs) will teach you is that management has almost no incentive to make your job easier or better in any way. This will enrage you. It will make you burn with resentment at your very core, and cause you to become jaded and pessimistic. You’ll grapple with the idea that your life working at that company could be better if only management could see things from your perspective and make some common sense decisions that cost them no additional time, effort, or money to implement.

My outlook improved dramatically when I stopped holding out hope that things would change for the better by staying where I was at and started job hopping until I found a place where I meshed well with the company culture and workflow. The management will still be the same way they are anywhere else, but at least they won’t be making you actively miserable.

On the other hand, there is no better praise than having some Gen Z kid with terminal brain rot accuse you of talking like an AI model. I accept that implied insult like a gamer accepting a hackusation - I’m winning so much that you can’t discern cheating from skill.

Expecting people who have already taken the easy route of asking an AI to summarize medical information to do additional due diligence by reading the sources that the AI spits out is naive as fuck.

There’s a reason it became a meme for someone to Google their symptoms, click on WebMD to read about it, and then come to the conclusion that they have cancer, all without ever having seen a medical professional in the meanwhile. Do you really think these sorts of people are going to be using AI responsibly for research purposes only?

If you ever wanted proof that having lots of money doesn’t equate to being intelligent or even particularly bright, this is it.
