Why, a hexvex of course!

Whatever gets you off mate.

Foreshadowing: they have not.
Sounds to me you’re now a better person than you were; be proud of that ^_^

“Amazon grade” made me laugh - though the reality is a bit closer to “Alibaba Roulette”.

I think the stigma still holds, mostly because a lot of Chinese goods exported to the west have planned obsolescence baked in.
This is largely because this is the manufacturing trend worldwide, not because Chinese fabrication is inherently bad. In effect, the world got enshittified while China was holding the “make all the things” card, so any improvements in their manufacturing are likely overlooked.
Now, as to who is at fault for the enshittification; this remains an open question to explore case by case. In some cases, it’s just capitalism at pay (lowest bidder giving lowest quality), in others it’s a slightly more sinister bid for future business by ensuring repeat customers down the line, in others (rarer by far) the hands that rule dictate.

A dungeon crawl mmo (top down), optimised to an obscene level so that the server costs are negligible and the only “premium” feature is a star next to usernames costing £5.
Theme the dungeons after the Etrian Odyssey series, go for a chill soundtrack, and create a wholesome social experience the world can enjoy.

Baldur’s Gate 3…
Yeah, I’d take that bet.

A kid is a conscious entity - an AI is a thing we made.
Big difference!

People often forget, the first LLMs were trained on a scrape of most surface sites; this includes places like 4chan and ED.
To suggest LLMs are racist is to over-personify. To suggest an LLM’s outputs amplify the views of such sites however…
Came here to post that!
Cyclists: every pavement is a shared space if you’re going fast enough.
Project zomboid with 200% zombie spawn…
Guessing a survival time of approx 10 mins?
Hexbear crosspost; stat is also questionable (apples to oranges, small sample size).
Yep, a PhD will definitely make you evil; but it’s worth that alignment hit. You just ride it out and work your way back to chaotic neutral by becoming a professor.

As someone who has taught both mathematics and statistics in his life the real difference boils down to proof Vs evidence.
The mathematician is uncertain because Gödel showed no system can prove its own consistency. Proof is (generally) rigourous enough that this is the main issue; once it has been proven (assuming your axioms are good), it’s considered true.
The statistician is uncertain because they work with samples rather than the population. There is also the issue of inferring causation even if your sample isn’t unrepresentative. With statistics you’re always building evidence, but you can never have concrete proof via statistical methods alone.
Also fun fact, given that there is more than one type of mathematics (e.g. platonist Vs intuitionistic), some giving different answers to the same question (excluded middle/trichotomy on the reals), and all of which are equiconsistent, we realise that mathematics really is just a branch of philosophy (i.e. what axioms are you willing to believe).

Alas, this isn’t a post about Linux - the bar can go nae higher.

That carries more self-awareness than one can reasonably imply from vulture-capitalist shareholders.

Honestly, Microsoft may be full of arseholes, but moves like this at least one sane human works for the company.
It takes balls to admit you fucked up , and this is one employee showing some balls.

The argument in the paper is a bit more nuanced - it’s mostly arguing that we over-anthropomorphise AI, and this taints out results on AI sentience by pre-biasing towards some human like qualities already. Part of this comes from the AI attempting to emulated a human notion of identity.
Using a contrived goat powered AoE II AI would likely yield less assumed human-like quality bias. It would also be hilarious.
“Pay or Ok”
The latest scummy tactic of news sites; this started shortly after the ruling that reposting their content was grounds for a DMCA strike.
