Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unique/different book you ever read?
1·1 day agoAware by Anthony De Mello stands out as a book that’s not quite written like a book.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•"Holy War" is an oxymoron. War may be rational in the name of defence, but on its own can never produce grace or peace.
31·3 days agoIt’s holy because the reasons for it are dictated in their holy book and thus getting killed in said war grants you a place in paradise.

13·4 days agoNo, you don’t like me.
And what did I do this time? I asked you to provide evidence for a claim you made. That’s literally all I did. Had such evidence existed you would’ve provided it but you didn’t. I called you out and you got offended by it.
I don’t think I’m the issue here - you just appear to be a hateful person and you don’t even seem to need a reason for it. I mean… look at your modlog - this is what you do.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some good but mundane or niche insults?
12·5 days agoDisagreement is plenty capable to cause conflicts even without insults as is demonstrated here. The only kind of conflict being a mean jerk causes are the pointless and completely avoidable ones that nothing good comes out from ever.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some good but mundane or niche insults?
1·5 days agoAll of that can be achieved without insults. They do not carry utility beyond offloading your own frustration onto someone else.
It’s a bit like name-dropping in a sense that almost everyone does it despite knowing perfectly well how it’s received when someone else does it to you. It’s hard to resist in the moment and it feels good to do but it never achieves what one hopes it would. Unless the intention is purely to insult without anything good coming out from it, that it does achieve, but that’s also the definition of evil: doing bad with the sole intention of hurting people.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which invention of human technology is your least favourite?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some good but mundane or niche insults?
44·5 days agoIf one is in the game of changing minds then, in my view, every form of insulting your opponent is achieving the exact opposite. Admitting that you’re wrong is already extremely difficult even when you’re dealing with someone who is acting decent with you. It’s not going to happen when they’re being a mean jerk about it.
Insults like that are performance for the audience. It might get applause from the supporting side and feel good for a moment but it only furthers the divide and makes the world a tiny bit worse place for everyone. There’s no need to go out of one’s way to be extra nice all the time but intentionally just throwing mud is virtually always counter-productive.

413·5 days agoI wasn’t questioning whether anyone has ever done this. I was questioning whether they have even a single piece of evidence suggesting that this particular person has done so or if this accusation is purely motivated by simply not liking them which does not justify spreading disinformation.
