I don’t get why they’re not at least using Bluesky. It has its issues and I would rather they use Mastodon, but Bluesky is more mainstream and at least lets you view without an account and isn’t owned by an outright Nazi

Not sure about the history of it, but it’s different to every other distro I’ve used! Admittedly I’ve not tried loads and I’ve not been using Linux for that long, but to me it makes far more sense to tell me I don’t have permission to use a command/program than to pretend it isn’t installed

This is a fairly minor issue since it’s quite an easy fix, but it really annoys me that Debian doesn’t include the sbin folders in the default user path. Meaning that if you try to run a command that needs sudo, instead of telling you it needs sudo it just says the command doesn’t exist

Telemetry exists to aid enshittification. Widely hated update that has loads of people complaining online but causes no change in usage? Keep it. Update causes dip in usage? Post generic “we hear your concerns” statement, backpedal slightly and try again in 6 months. Beloved feature is only actually utilised by 5% of your users? Get rid of it.

This is worthless and does nothing about their duopoly as it only seems to be focused on payment methods. I don’t give a shit about the payment options for in app purchases if I’m still forced to use the app store or play store to download the app in the first place. This should have been about preventing Google from killing sideloading and forcing Apple to allow it in the first place
Why is steam being killed by AI?

Fuck RAM manufacturers but are they actually price fixing though? It seems like AI companies just said “hey, we’ll give you a hundred million billion trillion gazillion schmillion dollars for all the RAM you will ever produce” and they said yes

Guess I’m just never buying a new PC at this point

Do Google employees actually do anything other than sit around thinking of ways to make things worse? In the last few years we’ve had web environment integrity (thankfully that one seems to have been dropped), gutting the AOSP to the point where it’s practically unusable on its own, Android developer verification, play integrity, QR code captchas and now this

Contrary to what the article says, Windows search is complete shit even with Bing disabled
For things to stop getting worse

There are no privacy preserving age verification methods beyond “just trust us we pinky promise we won’t track you or keep your data”. And I certainly don’t trust the government that tried to backdoor iCloud and is currently trying to mandate government spyware to be installed on all devices
Tech products need to just fuck off and stay in their lane. Why are you, an app, deciding whether I can use an OS level feature or not? Why is my hardware deciding which OS I’m allowed to run?
Thanks that worked!
How do I actually create an account? I’ve tried deploying a test server but when I try to create an account with Element X it just says the server needs to be upgraded to support matrix authentication service and account creation. FluffyChat doesn’t let me create an account either, it just shows me a login page.
As I’m just testing the federation port isn’t actually accessible, would that break account creation or do you have to use the console to create accounts? I’ve never used matrix before

Less than 33%, you’d need a 100% price increase to make up for losing half

Make sure you have backups especially if Immich is now your main method of photo storage!

I usually use rsync -azP --delete but I’m not sure if that’s the best option.
