Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Just fixin’ the red bull sloganEnglish
121·3 days agoDid… did you read them, “bro”? Because they’re making my point, not yours.
The mice were fed an exclusive high fat high carb diet containing double the amount of aspartame that you’d find in a zero sugar drink. They’re mice. Scaling that amount up to match mg/kg in a human would be an ASTRONOMICAL amount of aspartame consumed at every meal, for 12 weeks. Even then, the effects in mice were not even exclusive to the aspartame group. ETA: did the math: It’s 5.2 MILLION cans of coke zero. Every meal. For 12 weeks.
The second one rated it as 2B, or the weakest link, and it says right there: “JECFA reaffirmed the acceptable daily intake of 40 mg/kg body weight.” ETA: Just to put that 2B rating into perspective, shift work, as in working unusual hours, is rated as 2A, which is higher. Magnetic fields have a rating of 2B.
Your last study is interesting but far from conclusive. It found a correlation, which is not causation. Even the author suspects “chronic high intake” of being the culprit.
Stop spreading FUD. Drink in moderation, and you’re golden.

The only thing that’s childish is thinking your age means you have to stop doing the things you enjoy. I’m in my late 30’s and you’re basically describing my weekends. Well, the ones I actually have free that is. Sadly, responsibilities eat into that more and more the older you get. All the more reason to actually enjoy your free time when you have it

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•DuckDuckGo's "hide ai images" option still shows AI images that are clearly tagged on the siteEnglish
28·22 days agoYe, this. It’s not really their fault. There’s no protocol for responsible sites to flag AI content to the search engines. They can’t really be expected to examine each and every site’s bespoke tagging system for their specific way of declaring AI imagery. I hope that changes soon, and DDG could be the pioneers of it if they wanted.

1·1 month agoAnd then won, and then lost, and then won. That’s how an arms race works. And we have the advantage in numbers. There are far more people who don’t want their shit scalped than people working for the morons at OpenAI, or Google or Anthropic. And yes, they ARE morons. The battle is only lost when one side gives up. You only lose when you accept defeat.

PSA to anyone who uploads art online, anywhere. Poison it first. Use the latest version. I’m sorry but you are in an arms race now. Dickhead over here is full of shit, but even if they’re not, Nightshade is updated fast.
While it is theoretically true that you can turn one distro into another, in practice it’s not worth it. It’s the same thing as trying to sell someone on “you never need to reboot to apply updates or fix things.” Ye, technically true, but unless you’re maintaining huge corporate servers where downtime is measured in dollars, 9 times out of 10, it’s just easier to reboot and see if it fixes the issue. And yes, it will often still fix the issue.
The reason for distro hopping etc is because picking a distro is essentially choosing your defaults/ideology/character alignment. There are no wrong answers. Just go with what feels right. Newbies should distro hop to see how they align, experienced users should do it for fun and to see if a different way suits them better.
We should be herding beginners towards beginner friendly distros so they don’t run into a cliff of a learning curve, but which specific one is basically arbitrary.
As for your other examples: Don’t let your dreams be dreams. You can 100% use batocera as server if you like, it’s entirely possible. You’re just going to have to dedicate a shitload of time coercing into a server shape… but nothing’s stopping you

41·4 months agoPfft. Learn to time travel n00b. Skill issue.
Just got my Steam controller, and it’s amazing how many friends I have who are just like: “Ew, I never use a controller. I played <insert some game that would be better with a controller here> with a mouse and keyboard”

Had to Google this. I didn’t know about Snoop Dogg… deep sigh
What I wouldn’t give (or pay) for a 1. sleek, modern smartphone 2. running a pure Linux distro 3. that’s feature complete enough to daily drive
All of the current options available fall down in one of the three areas. Usually 2. and 3… mostly 3.
