“I am sitting in a room”

“I am sitting in a room”
Yes, alt+F4 is the “force close the foreground app/window” command in Windows. People used to say it in counter strike lobbies. It was always funny when you saw:
PlayerA: Remember if you are low on funds, press alt+f4 for infinite money PlayerB: really? PlayerA: yup! PlayerB has disconnected

Reminds me of that cheat in Counter Strike back in the day where you press Alt + F4 for infinite money.

Not yet. But it feels like the squeeze is getting tighter every month that passes. It feels like I can’t get through a day without having to spend money on some shit. And I’m not talking about luxuries. I’m not talking about avocado toast or coffee. I’m talking about fixing shit in my coop apartment. Getting new brakes on my car. Getting clothes for my kids. New shoes because mine literally have a hole worn through them. I try to go with low cost options. I buy food in bulk and meal prep. It feels like the system is nickel and dime-ing me harder and harder every day. I’m trying to stay optimistic, but the future feels bleak. Capitalism is bleeding us dry while keeping us alive. We are the prisoners of financial vampires.

I had a PayPal account at some point for some reason. Then one day I was out with my family and my phone started getting blown up with password reset requests, then emails from PayPal saying there was suspicious activity on my account originating in India, and then I immediately removed all payment methods from my account, and shut down the account. Never again.

You can pause Windows updates, although I’m not sure I would suggest it because they are usually patching a baotlad of security vulns.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/updates-lifecycle/pause-updates-in-windows
Not defending Microsoft in any way, just pointing out that the option exists. Of course you will get updates once it unpauses, but maybe another CU down the line won’t break shit.

That’s even more interesting. We really have no idea what is actually out there.

Whenever I see photos like these I think “I wonder what it looks like now”
Because this is what it looked like 6,500 years ago.

Tell me more about how if we all live in tents, that will offset the pollution from the data centers being built. Maybe if I walk my kids to daycare on the days it rains (I already walk them in good weather), the government will invest in green energy. Defending billionaires? Son, you must be lost.

The amount of people I need to explain this to is the mildly infuriating part.
One time when packing up after a LAN party, a friend of mine grabbed my surge protector instead of his power strip. A couple days later I was like “Hey we swapped some gear by mistake. I think you took my surge protector and I have your power strip” and he was was like “Oh well I already set my computer back up at home, so maybe we just keep them because it’s the same thing”
Nah, my dude. Mine is an expensive surge protector that I put my expensive computer equipment on. Yours is a $10 power strip from the bargain bin at Home Depot and I would never plug things I care about into it.
He did swap back with me but acted like it was such a bother.

I don’t recall mentioning how I voted, so that’s a wild assumption.
And if the standard is that you’re not allowed to criticize an economic system unless you’ve completely removed yourself from modern society, then nobody is allowed to criticize anything. I assume you didn’t mine the silica, manufacture the chips, build the device, or construct the network you’re using to post this comment.
Participating in a system because it’s the system we currently live in isn’t the same thing as endorsing every consequence of that system.
Let me know when you’re living off the land detached from society completely. I’ll make sure to send you a post card.

I flew to Ireland so my relatives could meet my children for the first time. I make that trip maybe once every 3 to 4 years.
If your response to climate change is to shame ordinary people for occasionally getting on an airplane while billionaires take private jets, oil companies fight renewable energy, and massive corporations produce pollution on a scale no individual could dream of matching, then you’re aiming your anger in the wrong direction.
My “once every few years” flight is a rounding error. Telling regular people they shouldn’t travel, see family, or enjoy their lives because corporations and the ultra rich have spent decades wrecking the climate isn’t environmentalism. It’s just shifting responsibility onto the people with the least power to fix the problem.
Or in short: I motorboated your fucking mom across the ocean.

More than just France. I went to Ireland this summer, and I have been several times before. In a country that is normally cloudy and rainy, it was sunny and bright. It didn’t rain for the 10 days I was there. That sounds nice, but everything was dried up, it was sad. What is normally a drive through the lush and green countryside, was a drive through the brown and dry midlands. Not seeing those rolling hills of emerald green really bummed me out.

Well the jerk store called, and they’re running out of you!

Kind of like how Windows changed the “My Documents” folder to just “Documents” when One drive came out.

Juggalos are pretty out there. Huffing nitrous, and drinking shitty beer and root beer? And they are super proud of it. I’m pretty sure there’s meth involved. I don’t think they do much harm to anybody but themselves, and maybe anybody they influence into becoming a juggalo. But man, what a weird group of people.

This one is always hilarious. Like James Bond will be out on some mission for several days and I’ll be like “damn, I wonder where he took a shit”
I feel like this is something left out of pretty much every survival video game. You have to figure out how to get food and water etc, but you never have to dig a hole to shit in. It is part of being alive.

Wow, that’s a pretty sweeping statement. I know some cops, and let me tell you, I don’t need to watch a documentary to know that they are incompetent.
Hell yeah, I’m right there with you. As I age it’s getting harder and harder to lose weight. I recently started fitting in exercise throughout my day. I was never a super unhealthy eater or snacker, but I’ve been trying to do a little better on the food side as well. What’s working for me is consistency. Not working my ass of or dieting just to drop weight fast and then gain it back when I can’t keep up with whatever strict regimine I planned. I have done that a handful of times before, and it always ends up the same. Now, I’ve been losing maybe 1lb a month for over a year. I’m not weighing myself obsessively, just keeping consistent exercise. If I feel a little hurt I don’t push through it. I recover and get back to consistency faster. I feel stronger, my balance is better, and I’m not working my ass of to do it.
