Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could travel back in time and view a historical event what would it be?
4·4 days agoDepends it is to view without the problem of being seen and interacted? Basically as an invisible ghost?
And not counting the language barrier? It would be interesting to see many magical moments from every mythology.
To see the actual rulers in Egypt and how they built the pyramids.
Or visit any other wonder’s of ancient world. The library of Alexandria!
There is also that tomb in China that supposedly floats on quicksilver. But if I want to be more realistic with useful info I would try to see some CIA / KGB briefings - or even the outcome of the Manhattan project, how it went down. How did they realize what they did. (Tho Teller Ede was seemingly totally fine with his work based on how he interacted in early 2000s).
We could visit some NorthKorean bigwig powwows also, or even Lenin first ideology part.

28·5 days agoThose k-cups, and disposable vapes… You know what? Anything that has disposable in their name.
Yes even baby and feminine products.
Disposable cutlery, disposable bags, FAST fashion, the freaking packaging, the non returnable glass/plastic bottles.

114·6 days agoI’m wanting to say I like this idea, but…
It just freaking sux. There are good cops out there who don’t need to be pumped into one insurance ideology (fraud) - but til the bad cops get the punishment they deserve there is no good solution. This is a general problem with the whole system - including unaffordable healthcare. If healthcare would be free; freakton of lawsuits wouldn’t happen.
Without those lawsuits the insurance would go down, lawyers would not clog up the system with ‘got hurt in an accident’ cases - and this would reflect all parts of society.
I believe the cops not getting punished for being bad is just one of the hundred symptoms of the system failing.

35·6 days agoThe problem is that any fees cops get for doing stuff coming out of tax money.
In a way I understand why, but it just bullshit at the end of day.
It is your life.
Only your decision matters. But here are some reasons for going through:
Having a kid with no / aging / ailing father is just hard. Do you really need to put yourself and child through that hardship?Having a kid wih a father that can’t do much for it is also hard. Not going to teach Timmy how to ride the bike bc Daddy can’t even walk.
I believe there are several birth defects that caused by the age of the genetic material provider. So the health or mental state of the child isn’t actually ensured.
Can you provide the child everything it would need? Special needs part undersored.Reason to keep it:
Human emotions
Human morality
You know, looking at my down votes I wonder if they are against punishment, or me calling them abusers?
I don’t have boring one.
I believe in corpoal punishment for children - as is some spanking with hand. Not beating children.
If you are using a belt that means you are hitting harder than your hand would take, so that’s abuse territory.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a psychological "cheat code" you use in everyday life that actually works?
5·10 days agoI think it is stupid to lie about little things. It takes too much effort in every day life - so it’s easier to not over share and boast about stupid things.
You will have to keep track of those anc that’s just work for no gain. Because lies never feels like a real achievement, and eventually you will be found out.
If you decide to make up a lie - think it through and look for weak spots and illogical parts. Do the work upfront so the stress is off your shoulder.
Lots of cheap jokes - but that doesn’t make them bad jokes.
Towels at the nudist beach is a classic. (Technically every episode is classic tho)

Technology@lemmy.world•Documents reveal plans for $6 utility rate hike to help fund Google’s data center project in MemphisEnglish
66·11 days agoThe funny thing if they were using that money to build utilities / buildings for the community to use - that could be applauded.
But they are taking money to pay for a for profit company, that will provide for profit services, that will disturb locals for profit.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What movies out there have horrible taste and poorly thought-out plots but were excellently executed?
1·12 days agoUnder the Boardwalk
2023 American animated musical romantic comedy. The animation, sound - all the production was there. The plot and characters were just bad. (I haven’t finished it so maybe it gets better?)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy?
6·13 days agoI saw them long ago. I believe I liked them - tho it gave Batman a different tone.
It is very interesting how Batman is one of those characters that change tones swinging any direction.
I grew up seeing episodes from the og Batman series, then the animated ones (even Batman Beyond) - and I still like Batman forever. These were all different in tones. The ‘new’ ones are more modern action movie style, in my recall it was a good popcorn flick. It reminds me of the ‘new’ Star Trek movies - as is not Star Trek but a good movie.
I think I am going to do a Batman binge - thanks for the reminder :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your most loved and often used kitchen gadget or appliance?
2·13 days agoI “invested” in metal measuring cups. No more extra added microplastics in my food.
Same thing with glass food storage containers. (same reason)
Also the reusable cups with steel/silicone straws. (you can see my pattern)
Ohh! And wooden/bamboo cutting boards, wooden spoons/spatulas. (needless to say anything else)

Technology@lemmy.world•The Internet Is Kind of a Predatory Cesspit NowEnglish
84·18 days agoI don’t disagree but I don’t like this article.
Internet is just human.
You see the negativity and the loudest people and keep forgetting about the silent majority.Open source projects, people organizing events/ charities, communities geeking out over the same stuff, Wikipedia - basically all the human knowledge is at your fingerprints.
Scammers, abusers, margin groups, hate groups - they are all there. It is just so much easier to see the negative parts.
I have an aluminium mouse pad.
In the past I was gaming from my bed: lap table with cooling fans on top for the laptop and the high-res mousepad on the bed.
Nowadays I mostly play controller but I have a regular aluminum mousepad when I need it - but I no longer play demanding mouse games on the couch.
