  • Casual Geographic has great animal content, and is just a really funny likable guy.

Parkrose Permaculture for US leftist politics.

Attorney Mark Lopez for how to deal with cops (also US)

Accounting Rescue with Lisa if you have accounting questions

Fire Department Chronicles for funny medical skits

Former Black Panther Speaks: the origin of Standards Not Force, which is the spiritual successor to the Black Panthers.

T1J for interesting analysis of random popular media.

Chris and Jack for funny skits.

Mina Le for cultural analysis in media, particularly fashion and appearance related.

I also follow a ton of channels related to making and selling art, but i’m not going to list those unless anyone requests it.

  • A hot bath. Talking to a good listener.

This may sound dumb, but resolving the problem. I was super stressed yesterday when I got an alert that my paid parking timed out. I thought i would be able to extend it on the app, but turned out you could only do that before the timer ended. And the website said you could ask a “live agent” any questions, but there was only AI with pre-selected topics.

So I had to hurry back across the city to pay for another period and I was LIVID but as soon as I got the next period covered (and no ticket) I felt better. I was (am) still angry on an intellectual level about the garbage parking company and their bald-faced lies about live agents, but I no longer felt the need to rage-scream.

  • Someone brought this up in another current thread: consider your end goal. What result do you want from an interaction, and how can you act in a way most likely to make that happen?

So often we react in an emotional way, and act like punishing someone else because they behaved inappropriately is the only just response. And i’m not saying you should ignore bad behavior or that no one should experience consequences for their actions. This advice is literally just to consider your options, to determine what course of action will most likely get what you desire rather than what feels good in the moment.

  • Opposite but same: the thing i loved about minimum wage jobs (like fast food) was that I didn’t have to care about the job. Not to say I did it poorly because I have pride in myself and empathy for customers, but I didnt have to tie myself in knots to please a company that I didnt owe anything to. Pizza hut treating me like shit? No problem, papa John’s is across the street and hiring. I was very open about this attitude with managers and they didnt care because I was as replaceable to them as they were to me, so as long as we were both benefiting from the relationship it was fine.
