  • Never understood not helping pan handlers. Fuck am I going to spend that cash on? A soda? A candy? I don’t need more of that. Who the fuck cares what they spend it on? At least if he goes and gets meth with it, I know it’s going back into the economy. Dealer probably isn’t gonna spend it on amazon prime. I’ve yet to meet a dealer that doesn’t spend most of their money on pets, drugs, and food.

That guy in the picture isn’t failing to pull himself up by his boot straps, he’s the victim of a society that is designed to make an example of him to scare the rest of us into submission.

  • I actually don’t, but it’s nowhere near as impressive as you might assume lol

We picked the TV up on marketplace. Unscrewed everything that was originally inside it and disposed of that stuff. I took the plastic faux wood decor off, laid the TV over the hole where the screen was, traced it with sharpie, and cut it with a sawzaw. Now the TV is held in place by the faux wood frame on the front and nylon straps on the back.

As for the server, I took an old tower and drilled out all the rivets until all the exterior pieces were off, then I used some the loose screws from the TV guts to anchor it too the inside of the TV box.

We have little strips of fabric covered posterboard hiding the ugly areas at the top and bottom of the screen and if I ever get around to it I’ll disable the TV and wrap a full sheet if fabric around the front frame so that it transitions a little better.

  • My spouse and I both have mid century 5 drawer tanker desks. I’m sitting at it to type this.

Attached to my monitor stand is the modified remains of an 80’s gravity lamp. The base broke but the springs are good and it makes a great spotlight.

Our server and tv are built into the remains of an early 80’s Zenith console TV. The screen was dead so we cut out space behind the decorative front pannel for a 32in flat screen and cut down the tower to work as scaffolding for the computer parts. Tossed a sound bar in and now it booms like a theater. You don’t even notice the 2in of screen that’s losts on the ends.

Our stove is a Montgomery Ward from the late 70s. It’s an absolute marvel to use. The clock is broken so I’m planning to dismantle that area to put controls for a vent fan I want to install in the attached shelf.

Our fridge is modern but the second I find myself a '64 GE Americana I’m gutting it to modetnize that masterpiece. Unless I find the tools for metal fab first…

My Samsung microwave is from the mid 70’s. It doesn’t have a turn table but it heats food better than any modern box and has a fraction of the radio leak that my Walmart one had.

  • For the same adhd reasons I’ve tried to learn programming languages about 8 times a year since 2011 and can’t make it stick.

Ive got this idea for a pocket pet game that’s sort of a love letter to all those toys from the late 90s that never really hit their full potential. It uses qr and barcode scanning to generate loot, your pet can change species and color with your effort so you never have to replace them and you can customize them to your identity, it uses real world travel to generate battles, and you can battle other players locally.

The code scans would be used as a seed for a random table and then be account locked so every time you scan that can of soup you get the same item reliably every 24hrs. With the idea that dedicated players would collect the codes that they’d want to repeatedly use. Then when you meet other players you can scan each other’s collection to get a quick boost of loot, facilitating a reason for the player base to socialize.

I have dreams of making it FOSS, supporting its expenses with monotized cosmetics for sprites and UI with an open invitation for players to make their own cosmetics that they’d receive a 50% cut of the profits. If it ever got big I’d get modified versions of those dog tag engravers you see at tourist traps that would print out a token featuring your pet, your account name, and a one of a kind qr code on the back that gives a slightly better reward. I’d put these machines in silly places so the players would have a neat experience visiting them and a one of a kind physical reminder of the fun to show off to their friends.

I have the whole game complete on paper but I don’t know how to make it work digitally so I doubt it will ever happen.
