Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Congrats on your big win!!!English
6·9 days agoI live in a state with recreational marijuana, but my current employer’s policies specifically prohibit even medical marijuana, and I had to do a pre-employment drug test. Looking for a better job, but I’ve exhausted unemployment and all my savings, so it pays the bills for now.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could see one statistic above every person's head, that is updated in real time and never goes away, what would you choose?English
1·2 months agoWould it be their preferred name or legal name? What about people who go by different names in different contexts? For example, William at work, but Bill with friends & family? Or stage names? Or professional titles?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much money have you lost while gambling in one day?English
1·3 months agoThe first time I ever gambled, I put $20 into a slot machine, a few minutes later I was up to $60, and another few minutes down to $0. So, I don’t know if you’d consider that losing $20 or $60, but that’s the most I ever lost in a day.

5·3 months agoI’ve come to the conclusion that speech to text has played a significant role in the disappearance of commas. When things are written via speech to text, it almost never had any commas unless they say “comma”, and almost no one ever does. From there, I guess people just get used to not seeing commas, and even when they’re typing, commas don’t cross their mind.
It’s a pretty big pet peeve of mine, and I find it super frustrating to text with people who frequently used speech to text.
I think it depends on the beach. If it’s somewhere with lots of other people, somewhere super accessible, then I kinda expect it. But if it’s a less populated beach, maybe one that’s more difficult to get to, I probably chose it in hopes of listening to nature.
I think that’s Swiff_er_?
Thanks to some unexpected health issues, I drained the savings, and am now borrowing from family. Hooray.
I’m not in tech, but the last time I was unemployed, I was able to reach out to a few temp/staffing agencies and at least had something to keep me afloat pretty quickly. This time around, I’ve only received a response from a single temp agency. They’ve sent me on a few interviews over the past month, but still no actual job offer yet.
Yup. I hope you find something soon!
18 months here. Initially, I figured I’d enjoy a few months off thanks to severance + unemployment, but then, when it was about time to get serious about finding work again, I was diagnosed with cancer. I’m in remission now, but my savings is completely gone and I’m borrowing money from family. A tent is definitely growing more appealing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•does it really work to wear brand new leggings wet for the first time so they mold better to your figure and last longer?English
2·3 months agoYeah, that (lack of) friction makes a huge difference though, and is the only reason I wish I had a thigh gap. I do find that the more athletic/activewear fabrics tend to hold up longer, while the “buttery”/loungewear fabrics wear out faster.

6·3 months agoDo your thighs rub together when you walk? The reason basically every pair of pants I’ve ever owned got tossed was because they eventually get holes in the inner thighs. I always wash almost all of my clothes cold/gentle & air dry.
#DIV/0! I was laid off and haven’t been able to find another job yet, so salary is zero, but basic needs still exist and cost money.
Yeah, they require (a very reasonable number of) job hunting activities, and also you also have to fill out a form every week to actually collect the payment.
Also on Graphene. I’m unemployed and dealing with a semi recent health diagnosis, so I definitely get calls from numbers that I haven’t saved. I just let them go to voicemail, and if they’re not spam, I save the number and call them back.
At least where I live, collecting unemployment requires doing tasks that I consider “working”.
I haven’t caught mine trying to eat/drink the coffee, but he loves to rub his face inside my mug, and after a big spill the other day, he was rubbing all over that area of the floor.

1·3 months agoHow are we quantifying “most turds”? Would a single bowel movement count as multiple turds if they came out as separate pieces? Is there a minimum mass or volume to count as a single turd? What about bowel movements that are not solid?
