My husband is very suspicious when I ask him to join me on the porch in the evening - mosquitoes will ignore me if he’s around, I’m never their first choice but if I am the only one out there they will settle, lol.
I always figured it was because I run cool, not warm, don’t sweat much, and also eat a lot of spicy food, not much sweet.
We got the flu once really bad, my whole family. Before that, I never understood how a flu epidemic could kill people, it’s just a flu, right? We were all in bed for 2 weeks, just lay together on the pull out bed in the living room to be next to the kitchen and bathroom, I nursed the baby and we drank water, salt water, lemon water when we could get up, but I could so easily imagine just starving or dehydrating and dying, we were so so sick.
Dude - if this happens again - I always tucked the string around my cervix. Like so the pointy end was pointing back up inside me. I never felt it once it was settled and it didn’t stab my partner. The doctors will say “I can cut it shorter” but that’s a bad answer, what happens then when they go to remove it? And it’s still stabby but then you can’t tuck it around.
IUD is great when it works - safer than tying tubes or vasectomy AND it’s reversible.
And WTF? Aren’t most women like 4-5 inches long inside? I’m tall and presumably have a little more length in there but have gotten cervix punch by average guys just a bad angle.
Horses are great but require a lot of resources. I think most people would be trudging on foot and cars would be housing not transportation.

Not power but our hot water heater went out in the dead of winter and we had a well. Our coldest winter is near freezing, not insane but those showers were awful. Ice water shower. I couldn’t adjust ever. The one upside was that I was warm stepping out of the shower, oddly much warmer than after a hot shower.

I had to get that electrified acupuncture to induce labor with one of my kids (the water broke and I was ‘on the clock’ but labor did not start) - the needles just felt weird but getting acupuncture to INDUCE pain was a mindfuck. It did work. Baby 2 hours later.
Being stitched for a tear after childbirth was bad. As someone else mentioned - IUD insertion is done with no pain medicine, that was bad. I think the worst pain related to literal medical procedures are those women’s ones, for whatever reason they are done without anesthesia and really do hurt.
Worst PAIN I have ever felt, though, is migraine. Hands down. Worse than childbirth.
Well to flip this, so it’s not quite so sexist - I always thought Skinner on the X files was hot & my kids think that is funny, they don’t see it.

I am not at all a gun person but plenty of ladies here have a purse gun. Or did back then anyway, and through the 2000s, I haven’t polled my coworkers lately. But it was quite startling.

I used to be a cashier at a grocery store and one time a lady came through the line and went to pull her wallet out of her bra, couldn’t find it easily and started emptying her bra like a purse. Out come the keys, tissues, a GUN, then finally the wallet.

I live in Florida and the northerners who come down are so much more racist than the native born, at least in my personal experience. My ex came from Michigan and went to an all white school up there, never met or hung out with anyone not white. They may not have explicit segregation but do have effective segregation.
So he comes down here where we were forcibly desegregated so I have friends of all sorts and my kids do & also it’s just more a block by block version of “segregation” less a side of town so we are just most often in mixed situations and holy shit he was not prepared for that. So racist he held every stereotype you can imagine.
So anyway - I kind of agree, up north it seems they are theoretically not racist but are segregated, down here more explicit trouble because we are together, but it’s getting better. Or was at least through the generation following mine, maybe not anymore, not sure.

Kids seem so much nicer than when I was a kid. My kids’ friends would sit and talk to me, when I went to get them from school I would get random kids saying stuff like “you are x’s mom? They are so cool!” “Your outfit is pretty!” I would never, ever have said that to a mom at school.
I don’t just think they are not worse, I think they are better than we were.
Plenty of alligators, some of them big. They are in most every body of water here, and as long as nobody feeds them or does anything stupid, they don’t bother people. Also saw a fox, once. Out in the suburbs. Lots of big birds here, sandhill cranes, hawks, herons. I know cormorants raid fish farms, so I guess they affect livestock.
