  • I would say that AI is becoming much more effective for the tokens produced. I have been running Qwen 3.8 Flash-Next on my new PC. This AI model weighs in at 120b parameters, with another 50b added via an Engram table that costs about an extra 20% in RAM for its parameter count. This is a major jump in world knowledge, and the model in question has 262k context length.

While experimental and with rough edges, this model has been able to use Lingua Gacha to undertake a game translation project - understanding and converting a Chinese game into English.

Agentic AI has become practical on local hardware over this last year, and there looks to be much more refinement to come.

What we are seeing with Anthropic and the other American companies, is a scramble to protect themselves from the consequences of badly planned data centers and poor practices in AI development. Their Chinese competition has produced much more efficient models, while delivering almost the same level of quality as American offerings. This means that local AI is becoming “good enough”, which makes data centres and AI subscriptions unnecessary for many businesses if they distrust the cloud.

  • I think there should be an absolute cap on liquid wealth and assets. Stocks, bonds, houses, vehicles, properties, all part of the asset pool.

IMO, we should rework the economic system outright - to ensure no one can be wealthy, and to take away incentives to be rich beyond a point. For example, arresting people who have too much wealth, and confiscating their wealth heavily, leaving them with up to half of the wealth caps.

We should aim for a society where everybody is within the same ballpark of agency. Not too poor, nor rich. Just able to live a good life, without trampling on humanity.

  • I suppose most folks would consider my breaking point to be unwarranted.

About four or so years back, a parent fell over. They are heavyset, requiring firemen to be lifted off the floor. They were nude, so I asked the fire department to send same-gender fighters, if that can be reasonably done. My parent threatened to have me thrown out of the household, out of embarrassment.

While that ultimately didn’t happen, it was a great breach of trust for me. I don’t have enough of an income to survive without a home, and quite frankly, I will take my life if I can’t enjoy it. Far as I am concerned, the threat of homelessness and poverty, isn’t much different than having a gun to my head.

I realized that this parent, like the other one, didn’t love me. The affection I held for them was fading over the years, but this is what broke the chain for me. I don’t love them anymore - they are like a rock or any random thing. They just exist. I won’t hurt them, but I also stopped going the extra mile. I ceased patrolling to check on their health, nor did I try to cook real meals or ask if I should fetch restaurant food for them. I simply made TV dinners at the appropriate times, and didn’t speak to my parent anymore.

My relationship was simply one of going through the motions.

  • Nope. I never really got into phones. The only reason I bought my smartphone, is because society demanded it. You can’t access many things without one.

My first and only smartphone is an iPhone 16, all the previous cellphones were cheap dumbphones for about $20. If possible, I prefer using email and a PC browser, because desktop computing is my natural habitat.

Phones suck. I have to pay a subscription for something that I don’t like using, and barely touch most weeks.

  • I ebay’ed my DDR5 RDIMM 5600 RAM sticks. 32gb was $606 some months ago, the remaining six sticks was about $3,600 bucks. I was originally planning on waiting for bubbles to burst and DDR6 to be released before switching to a DDR5 platform, but the whole war with Iran threw everything into doubt.

The US’s strategic oil reserve will likely run out within half a year, which means everything costing more. I wanted to be smart with my money and wait for a good time to buy, but this situation has ruined my planning. I bit the bullet and used a flex-pay to let me buy now.

Is it that my discipline sucks, or is the world certain to go into a hellish handbasket? I cannot tell anymore…
