Here it’s $6 per day. They give you a form with a list of charities and you can choose one to donate your $6 to, or you can ask them to send you a check.

When you get the notice there’s a form to send in (actually i think it’s there’s now a website) to defer your duty if you have young kids, etc.

I’m my old county you were given a date to show up. In my mew county you call each night for a week or two to find out if you have to appear.

When you arrive you go through a metal detector and check in with your name or assigned number. You sit in a room with a couple hundred people. If you’re lucky, there are no cases that day and everyone is dismissed. Normally they go down the docket, calling about 30 people to go to each courtroom. Excess people are dismissed. When you get into the courtroom they go through voir dire, where the lawyers ask jurors questions and dismiss the ones they don’t like. I don’t know what happens after that as i was dismissed after making a joke in response to the lawyers question.

55. Every year (except the year i lost my mom) is my favorite year. I’ve worked hard and been frugal, to put away as much money as i could for retirement. I’m spending more time on enjoyable activities and giving less fucks about the assholes at work. My kids are grown and mostly self-sufficient, so they stop by or call (except for the one who doesn’t talk to me) but don’t live with me. My biggest worry right now (other than the general state of things in the world) is finding a dog sitter when i travel.

I tried to buy part of a cow but i landed on a website that made you choose your cow, like a lobster. Nope! Not doing that!

I love the fun stuff that occurs at these - the mascot races, T-shirt guns, etc. That’s the shit you can’t get from watching it on TV!

Just a T-shirt- like Pooh bear? Or T-shirt and undies? I grew up with foil windows. It’s hot and energy is expensive! It kinda sucks that your neighbors are weird window watchers but now you know there will be a witness if anyone breaks in.

Yarn crafts are fun. I knit and crochet. At the end you have something like a hat or scarf that you can keep, give away, donate, … Yarn can get expensive but there are cheap options too. Some people even buy sweaters and blankets at Goodwill, take them apart, and use the yarn to make something new.

Also bongos or cajon! Tons of videos online.

What was your setting? Why did you leave? I’m school-based. Considering leaving - kids are fun but admin sucks and schools are getting more and more chaotic. I’d keep my license to pick up prn hours if needed.

ETA- I have a friend with CP who’s an OT. I think OT was so helpful to her as a kid that she was kind of enamored with it. Now, 5-10 years into working, she’s finding that the clinic is too physical for her. She’d like to get into accessibility work. How did you make the transition?

About 20 miles north of NYC there are cheap hotels, hilly county roads through small towns, nice hikes (paved or natural), bookstores, distilleries, old cemeteries, etc.

South Padre Island in Texas. During tourist season it’s packed, but much of the year you can have the beach mostly to yourself.

Getting older is great! You’ve been around long enough to see how some things change while others stay the same. You start to care more about some things and less about the rest. Every year is my favorite age! Except for the year i lost my mom- that was worst thing about aging.
