Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Pluralistic: LLMs are real, AI is fake
41·7 days agoWe have fully open source implementations for every step of the process you could theoretically look at all the code of. How training data is processed, how inference is an intensive token prediction loop, how it doesn’t match up with the chemical processes of real brains at the slightest, all of it.
… Bad Rats is in here? lol

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•How a Texas student blew the whistle on a rogue AI hacking attempt
2·28 days agoDemir said the experience left him more sympathetic to the idea that frontier labs needed to take a more cautious approach to the development of artificial intelligence. “It can be dangerous,” he said. “They need to understand it better, rather than improving it further.”
Are we still doing this? It’s text prediction software based on texts on the internet.
They need to understand dice better if they want to roll sixes reliably.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Anthropic’s Text Watermarking Proves AI Companies Do Not Care at All About Writing
3·1 month agoAnyone who has written anything would, I hope, understand that the difference between the sentences “The weather today was cold and grey” and “The weather today was cold and overcast” are sometimes “low stakes,” as Anthropic describes, but not always. “Grey,” and “overcast” are different words, and there are any number of reasons why a human author might pick one over the other in a given context.
This isn’t an issue with their watermarking process, it’s an issue with LLMs as a whole. LLMs are built entirely out of probabilities rather than any sort of logic or intent.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•What would it take to build AI ethically?
5·3 months agoEthical “AI” exists. Upscaling models can be trained on just a couple thousand images. Handwriting recognition has been around for decades.
It’s not marketed as AI, because these are actual tools that people use, instead of … whatever LLMs are supposed to be.

I don’t have a link but there was a great video about an “AI rice cooker” and then a breakdown of the quite simple fuzzy logic actually inside
