I love open Chinese llms but this seems 100% plausible and and I think ur wring. This is in line with how Chinese companies need to work around the system since America tries to handicap them. This is actually a very smart way to get high quality trianjng data for their future models. Unfortunate about leaking private customer data to a us company though.

I would be fine with it all failing and the economy falling and us killing all the rich, could be a good outcome. I just don’t think that’s correct though, llms are getting better. Maybe not the basic underlying math but people are smart and have continued to find ways to make these systems preform better and better with every new model.

I have never vibe coded, or hand coded anything. I took a beginner Python class but that’s the extent of my coding skills. My opinions are just from watching the last few years play out and working in a large company that heavily pushes AI tools (like all companies these days)

Llms are going to keep getting better and it will eventually be seen as very odd to code without llms support imo. I bet in 10 or so years it will be almost unheard of niche to not use llms for coding.

You’re right and I think the general concensus over the next few years will keep changing to support this idea. And probably go even further into vibe coding (to a certain degree) being a real thing actually companies do.

I don’t think a lot of people understand that even when the bubble eventually pops llms arent going away, and they legitimately are improving rapidly month over month with no sign that will abate. As they get better and better the cost to run models good enough for your specific task also lowers. I remember in 2022/2023 all the people here saying llms weren’t improving anymore and even getting worse, boy were they very very wrong.

A lot of people are going to be unemployed over the next dacade from this technology, a lot more people than just developers.

Imo, there is a material difference between vibe code and LLM assisted code. Vibe code would be somebody like me with pretty much no coding experience making an end product. And LLM assisted coding would be a real coder who knows what they’re doing who uses LLMs for assistance and fully reviews the code.

Whether it’s disclosed or not, I am of the belief that pretty much every single piece of open source (and closed) software that is even a little bit popular most likely has LLM assisted code. So theres no avoiding that.

You can make single shot weapons from pretty much 100% plastic with just like a nail as the firing pin. But those aren’t really effective weapons at all, and you can make a better shotgun with some pipes from the hardware store.

Even if you could make fully functional firearms with 3D printers, this is still stupid. 3D printers for hobbyists were originally all hand built with common electronic parts and if more states pass regulations like this, DIY is going to be the new trend again where everybody builds their own printers instead of buying one and it’ll just get easier and easier and the government won’t be able to regulate that at all.

And, honestly, I’m all for that future, and sort of excited for it. The regulations are moronic and dumb, but just like digital surveillance and information suppression laws like age verification, it’s just going to make the darknet and none regulatable things more popular, which is great, in my opinion. I yearn for the day where the commoner gets online and Tor or I2P is their first choice of connection. Where the government has no control over the citizen and what they think, do, or say online or in their own private life.

Someone more knowledgeable than me please correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think any of the original private investors have been capable of selling anything and I don’t think they will be able to for another 30 or 60 days.

And IMO, I think Elon is thoroughly convinced that he will have another Tesla stock situation on his hand, where it generally keeps going up unreasonably for many many years.

Yea I hope this spurs more investment into Chinese llm labs, or really any country doing open models (pretty much only china). The united states like normal cannot be a trusted and reliable partner. I’m also against lobotomizing llms in general In the name of “safety”.

I was hoping the Chinese labs would go ham and just stop putting any safety guardrails at all. It’s much easier to get around them on the Chinese models, but there’s still some minimal ones baked in, sadly.

In the book series the expanse, which takes place a couple hundred years in the future, terms like sir are gender neutral. Women in charge are often referred to as sir. I think that’s what’ll happen irl, hopefully. I use guys as a gender neutral term and always have, and I will not stop!
