I’ve got news for you, Lemmy is not some super obscure underground platform. Yeah it’s a bit too convoluted for a lot of super casual social media users, which helps keep the content well-curated, but it’s publicly indexed and easily findable and definitely also being crawled for AI training.
I mean, even if it was I feel like that would just be being annoyingly pedantic. I wouldn’t describe quitting a game in the opening sequence as having ‘played’ that game.
Yep, sometimes I’ll treat myself and have a clean basket and a dirty basket sitting there on the floor, but usually dirty clothes go in a pile until they build up to the point that there’s a full load. Then when I build up the willpower to do laundry (usually about 120% of a proper ‘load’ that all just gets stuffed in together) then I’ll rotate the basket.

I mean, I get where you’re coming from with the forced updates, but I still use steam to launch all my DRM free games on the steamdeck. It’s just way easier and gives access to the steaminput settings and overlay for way better controller configuration. I just add everything as a non-steam app, then there’s no forced updates or anything like that, steam just serves as a launcher and interface for proton.
For some people standard of living isn’t absolute, it’s relative. They don’t judge by how comfortable they are or how much they can do with what they have, they judge based on how much better off they are than everyone else. For these people standard of living rising for everyone else would be equivalent to theirs dropping massively. It’s pretty fucked up.
I mean sure, you can ‘retrieve information’, with no way of knowing where the information came from, whether the source was accurate, or whether what you’ve retrieved is even remotely faithful to the source material. So basically you can’t actually retrieve anything, because it’s just mashing words together in a way that happens to sound correct most of the time.
Toppings and complex flavor profiles are a gateway to other forms of complexity, like complex thought and self-awareness. Dad doesn’t want that kind of liberal propaganda being fed to him.
This was a wild show. I found out about it like a year ago and binged the whole thing, and I couldn’t understand how I hadn’t heard about it sooner, having watched basically every decent sci-fi ever made. It’s definitely like a fever trip at times but it’s so creative and unique that it’s absolutely worth watching (and rewatching)
People aren’t saying AI is going to disappear, although that wouldn’t be a bad thing imo. When people talk about an AI crash they’re talking about the trillions in investments by the major companies that have been operating at a loss and have no monetization plan that could feasibly recoup even a fraction of that amount. Open source models are nearly as good as the big guys now, and nobody is going to pay hundreds or thousands a month just to keep using chatgpt or Gemini.
I can’t understand how people use any platforms with ads. Any ads are bad, but audio/video ads are the worst. I refuse to use any platform that tries to hijack my attention like that.
I grew up with nearly every stage and major leap of our modern tech. I saw dialup internet and windows 95 and the major shift to XP. I had an original Nintendo and gameboy, and got to witness the evolution to handheld and 3D gaming. I had a flip phone with T9 texting, and saw the first smartphones come about. For me, tech peaked in like 2012, and hasn’t done anything worthwhile or innovative since, with the exception of the steamdeck. The internet has only gotten shittier since, cell phones and PCs have only gotten more expensive and complex, without any major increase in capability. Sure they’re more powerful, but they can’t really do anything new, and all software has only gotten shittier and less efficient. It’s honestly depressing to think about how much hope I had for the tech space in the 2000s and how far we’ve fallen since then.
People avoiding updating windows because of how long it takes your machine out of commission for and how opaque the process is has been a meme since like Windows XP. It’s never five minutes. Plus the future hours saved not having to deal with windows bullshit.
Good news, it’s not just the switch. Pretty much every other console game is also better on PC, even just because of the existence of pause/save state functionality. That’s not even getting into romhacks or retro achievements or any of the other major benefits to emulation.
Depends where you are and where your source is coming from I assume, but in general I think it’s a fair assumption that they’ve gotten a lot stronger. There also are lots of different strains with different strengths and characteristics. In some places in Canada there are online or physical dispensaries that carry really high quality products that are way stronger than what used to be available on the black market.
It’s definitely still way less packaging. Those flimsy bags have way less plastic than the thick ass packages from the grocery store, and that’s not even counting all the things that are individually wrapped or have extra packaging like those plastic clamshell containers.
