Sort of. Unless you go to a private university taxes go to the public schools to fun facilities and wages for the educators. While you may pay tuition, the overall cost of that education and the services needed for one to do research doesn’t come wholely out of your pocket.

Now I agree you should be compensated more, as someone who tried to get published academically and has filed patents I can see why there is a split of compensation.

My plan is to move away from things that can be tracked as much as possible. Dropping Android when I can no longer get GraphineOS working, moving to a dumb phone and a data hotspot with a cyberdeck the size of a phone.

The gov won’t listen on these issues because it is a law giving them more power. No amount of protesting is going to get them to stop spying because it is all supose to be secret anyway.

I don’t think there would be much of a pressure change. All the outies would become innie lowering the pressure and all the innies becoming outies would bring it back up.

What I have noticed thispast year is that higher ups aren’t really understanding the total cost of AI solutions. They go use sites to have conversations with the most powerful LLMs not realizing that your company is not going to afford that level of tech. Your current IT infrastucture can’t add a few dozen high power/high cost systems to train the model for your business’s nuance. It is never a build it and forget it problem.

Additionally there is a skill of humans being easily retrained for other tasks. Creating a Jack of All Trades will net you a great workforce with people filling roles when you have medical leave, turnover and business pivots. AI isn’t general enough to make this change without major redesign.

The only “problem” with this amazing skill is that companies no longer run on the idea of employee retention. You get promoted by jumping ship. Working harder doesn’t make the headway in a company like it used to 25+ years ago.

I want to get to know people in similar hobbies so yes I would want to see them face to face. I don’t care to interact with my coworkers beyond what I am paid for. For the coworkers I do want to interact with socially, can do that outside of work.

we had a massive no wall cubical farm. To get rid of noise they hung active noise canceling speakers above our cubes. There were times you couldn’t even hear yourself breathing. Was TOO quiet.

I’ve tried it before and I like the concept but in my head I struggle using something not directly how it was intended. I want content rich notes, not just bullets. Yes logseq has support but it just feels wrong for some reason.

If it was around two jobs ago when I was just copying lots of meetings I would have been all over it.

Also I never was able to get Logseq and syncthing to work. I doesn’t seem to let files be modified in the background and would lock up.

My wife did the same on signal. When I showed her the “Note to self” feature she was amazed an. started using it. She use to get annoyed that we would text and her note would get lost but now it doesn’t.

It isn’t about finding the best, it is about finding better than the worst. My wife needs the features Obsidian has, she says she wished her notes would visually link together. What she doesn’t know is that such apps exist.

She wishes she could sync files between her phone and computer and not have to go to a website to get them. syncthing does that.

The other day my wife was talking about her new job and having to take notes. For the past 30 years I’ve been keeping notes in text, then markdown in vim, starting with personal scripts, then vimwiki. A coworker showed me Obsidian, which while not FLOSS, does use an open standard for all its files. It pretty much does what my setup does.

Then it dawned on me that my wife and other non-techies just use whatever their computer has on it by default (i.e. OneNote). She never thought to go out and look for better productivity software. The idea that there is tons of better apps out there doesn’t register. She has a phone, knows about the app store and gets tons of stuff there but as for her desktop or laptop the idea of apps outside of MS Office and the video games she plays is lost on her.

you know when the bubble pops and they no longer have AI companies buying RAM they will switch back to consumers and keep the high prices.
