This is fun, because there’s no pressure to pick your favorites to show the world, you just let shuffle pick some.

I have too many old razors.

My current razor is a feather asd2, less than a decade old.

DSL! Such a classic.

We buy ground beef in bulk whenever it’s on sale. Like 5 or 10 pounds at a time.

We freeze them in quart bags, one pound at a time, squish them flat, and stack them in the freezer.

So easy to slap in a pan and start frying for tacos or whatever.

We recently got a half dozen or so pounds of 1 pound tubes of ground beef gifted to us. And man, it sucks trying to cook those from frozen. Scraping at them and frying them. Bah.

Northeast US. But that’s a shame about Texas.

I wish it were like Christmas Day, where almost every business is ACTUALLY closed.

I don’t celebrate, so this isn’t nostalgia for Christmas magic or whatever.

I just like that it’s a day that no matter what, for the most part, you’re on your own. Forgot to buy groceries? Scrounge the cupboard. Forgot to fill the gas tank? You’re staying home. Faucet leaking? Turn off the water, wash your hands in a different sink, call the plumber(or go to the hardware store) tomorrow. Ain’t NOTHING getting done today.

It’s the only day where the majority of people in areas where the holiday is celebrated, all agree that ain’t nobody doing anything that day.

Granted there’s lots of caveats. Some businesses are open by choice, some by necessity. I used to work at a nursing home, that’s gotta stay open, me and a few coworkers would volunteer to take the holiday shifts.

These days I’m still blue collar, but I do have most big holidays off.

But if you thought some random gas station or grocery store was gonna be open so you can pop in on Christmas? No dice.

Why isn’t labour Day that way?

I’m wondering if this has anything to do with the team lead changing?

A big push in features that had been waiting on the back burner?

And then?!

Are they? I haven’t checked recently, and winter is coming. I need snow tires.

My last trip was to a foreign country, 2nd world country. I brought enough clothes for half the trip, and did laundry in the sink with locally sourced soap. Hung them in the room to dry 🤷‍♂️

Hotel laundry was prohibitively expensive, though I suppose I could’ve found a Laundromat 🤔

At any rate, the towards the end of the trip we stayed somewhere with a washing machine, so we all did a load and hung them on the drying rack.

Clean clothes are important. Sometimes, MAYBE, I’ll go three days on a shirt. But only for work, because I work mostly alone and don’t sweat much or at all most days. But if I do? Or it gets dirty? New shirt.

In my normal life it’s similar, I can MAYBE get two days from a shirt in the spring fall winter, but not summer. One and done.

Same with showers, MAYBE two days, I’ve done three in a pinch but it’s gross. Gotta wash yourself every day. Can’t believe people who don’t.

I’ve watched them three times. Always spaced out by many years. Just did it a week or two ago actually.

The last two were extended. I don’t even know what the theatrical looks like anymore. I can’t imagine skipping scenes.

Which scenes do you skip? And what are you fine skipping in the two towers?

I respectfully disagree with that final statement. At least, my opinion on it differs from yours. Which is fine.

We’re in our first starter home right now, and we definitely have plans to make changes that will potentially drop its resell value. Why? Because we live here now, and probably for the next decade, and we want to fix things that annoy us.

Namely we plan to knock out a wall to make the kitchen/dining more open, and it’ll flow better into the living room too. But then it goes from a 3 bedroom house, to 2 🤷‍♂️

My in-laws just built a house, and I kind of hate it. They even dislike a lot of things about it, but everything they did to build that house, every decision, was 100% about resale. I don’t even mean big stuff, I mean every little detail. Like they’re living in a showroom. That’s just not for me.

We just did the same thing, it’s crazy. How can rent be SO EXPENSIVE, when, now that we finally got into a house, our payment is only a few hundred more, but we’ve tripled our square footage, and we have a garage, and a little bit of land. It’s crazy.

That payment includes insurance and taxes too. Wild.

Granted house upkeep takes money, and effort. But still.

So basically if I slap emby on an open port, and point my domain to my IP, it’ll work just the same. Connect is just for people without static IP addresses?

I ask because most people say you can’t put JF on an open port and call it good. Not safe.

Emby is based on jf from years ago. Is it safe?

Doesn’t emby have some kind of “connect” feature? I wish jf would do something like that

Wait, does emby do remote access similar to Plex? And without VPN like JF? That’s literally the only thing keeping me on Plex.

Most people are not gonna go that route unfortunately. I want to love JF, but the remote access is a big sticking point, especially for non tech relatives.

It bugs me when people just say tailscale like that solves it all. It’s very useful and solves a lot of problems, but not all. Unfortunately.

Doesn’t that mean your jellyfin server is directly exposed to the Internet? The very thing everyone constantly warns against?

Not for all clients, like Roku for example.

Yes the solution is different hardware, like a Google TV, older firestick, raspAP, or flash openwrt on a router. But that’s no longer plug and play and may have other caveats. Besides costing money.

No shade, it’s just not QUITE that simple every time.

My fiber install last year came with a “free” eero router, I sent it back.
