  • It’s hard to find trustworthy information about Israeli support for the actions of their country in Gaza and the west-bank from 2026, but the numbers that did show up earlier make me sadder everytime. These two article reference the same data, from one year ago. I have no reason to believe Israeli support for the people in Palestine. The small group of people who stand up against war seem to do that mostly because the life of Israeli soldiers (who are conscripted teenagers really). It’s unclear to me how well informed the public is about the scale of the war crimes, but it is obvious to everyone the army purposefully targets non-combatants (children, doctors, journalists, civilians) and in general it seems the public supports that.

A new poll published in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reveals that genocidal rhetoric, once confined to Israel’s extremist settler fringe, has now moved into the mainstream, with overwhelming public support for ethnic cleansing, mass killings, and biblical revenge.

Conducted by the Geocartography Knowledge Group for Penn State University in March 2025, the survey of 1,005 Israeli Jews paints a chilling picture of a society increasingly radicalised by religious nationalism and emboldened by war.

The survey, conducted in March and published by Haaretz newspaper on Thursday, found that 82 percent of Israeli Jews support the forced expulsion of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, 47 percent of Israeli Jews answered yes to the question: “Do you support the claim that the [Israeli army] in conquering an enemy city, should act in a manner similar to the way the Israelites did when they conquered Jericho under the leadership of Joshua, ie to kill all its inhabitants?” The reference is to the biblical account of the conquest of Jericho.

Let that headline sink in: Nearly half of Israelis support army killing all Palestinians in Gaza.

  • The countries in power didn’t change much in size, but the countries they controlled did.

Sorry, but this is just a strange thing to say. The size of any place on a map can only be measured relative to other places on the map. “The countries in power didn’t change much in size” just doesn’t make any sense.

What I meant with that is that the Mercator projection didn’t blow up a country like Spain as much as a country like Norway. I was responding to you, dismissing your claim the change in size is irrelevant because the countries in power weren’t close to the poles.

The major powers at the time were countries like Britain, Spain, France, and Italy. Not Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and Canada, which are inflated far more than the former.

Again, The countries in power didn’t change much in size, but the countries they controlled did. As you point out, the size of a country is only relevant in relation to that of others.

People were sailing open waters long before the Mercator projection. What you’re saying just isn’t true. We’re not going to agree, so i won’t waste my time continuing this conversation.
