Because most people on a day to day basis don’t give two shits about this type of internet drama over third party API’s as long as they have their entertainment that suits their needs and it’s still easy to access and provides them what they want at a price they’re willing to pay.
Most people who are using social media aren’t tech people who even know what a API is much less care and most people don’t care about whatever app they’re using to access social media as long as they have an app. As for mods, let’s face it, they weren’t and aren’t going to give up their little slice of power over an API in the long run, on reddit and here.
Also, while you say reddit has gotten even worse, which is a subjective opinion that you and most of us all share, their stuff still works for the users at the end of the day with their extremely large user base and still thriving niche communities which lemmy just does not have due to the much smaller user base.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•The fact that you can’t run through Windows setup w/o internet and an online account is absolute bullshit

15·3 months agoThere’s a big difference between a CEO that openly hates unions and has affairs or a software developer making 100k a year that makes racist AF on Facebook vs a CEO that’s literally keeping a bunch of Nazis afloat and giving them an outsized voice.
Also, there’s no best option when it comes to Nazis because if you give them an inch, they’ll subvert democracy and human decency.

10·3 months agoIt’s not a “tiny” amount of money, this dude is the CEO who makes all of the money in the company and any money going to Nazis is problematic especially when the Nazis in question are almost fully funded by this CEO and yes the CEO is the face and moral driver of a company.
Pretty ironic saying the company supports free speech when the biggest money maker is bankrolling a group that specifically gasses free speech and I doubt the other working there have even a sliver of speech that the CEO does.

49·3 months agoGod, he is such an insufferable dick and no jack ass, kids still play in the streets even with the cars but I wouldn’t expect a out of touch billionaire to even understand a bit of actual life and no, I don’t want your AI slop anywhere near my life.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•That crushing realization that life keeps leveling up in difficulty just like a video game, but forgot to include the cheat codes:
3·4 months agoSorry but when’s the last time we had games had built in cheat codes?
I’d say the current game of life matches the video game industry pretty well, it’s all pay to win and most of us don’t have the money to even finish the game.

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Nvidia really doesn't seem to care about gaming GPUs anymore — the company won't even bother to break down graphics sales in its big investor reportsEnglish
34·4 months agoThey’re making a solid bet here.
Look at the breakdown from Steam surveys, it’s almost always ~75% Nvidia. They know they have the gamer market down on lock and they know gamers aren’t going to buy something else as long as their competitor can’t fake as many frames as them and they know they have a lock on developers in a Ouroboros of vendor lock of more fake frames and AI slop filters that leads to more gamers who clamor for more fake frames and bad AI instagram filters.
Meanwhile they’re making money hand over fist with stupid AI and that money is money without relying directly on being AI for the most part so if the bubble bursts it’s not like they’re going to be overly hurt and then they know they can pivot right back to fake frames and slop filters and gamers will come running right back.

Technology@lemmy.world•Vibe Coding Will Break Your CompanyEnglish
0·5 months agoYup. AI might, and I mean might, be a force multiplier for senior developers but this whole “Everyone can just let AI code” is bullshit that will lead to a giant mess of unmanageable code when your developers your maturing don’t understand the underlying code or good software architecture.
Oh and also I’m right there with you with the fuck that whole ELOC bullshit as a metric.

So here’s something that boggles my mind a bit here. So these idiots have been talking about how the COVID vaccine was dangerous, unproven, and untested and that COVID was a bio-weapon from China, established fact with these people.
Right now quite a few of my more MAGA in-laws are straight up shooting untested, unproven, unverified peptides from China and going on about how it’s the best thing ever.
It’s American stupidity at its finest here.
