I close my browser before hibernating; more lifetime for my SSD that way and it is faster, too.

do you encrypt your swap drive? would this work with LUKS?
I sometimes cannot do hibernate when I did a scrub on my ZFS. But the first try always frees up the swap and so the second attempts works every time.
wow, if a later version of it can indeed do LoRa/Meshcore, it will be even more interesting to me.
I wonder if it can run a Gnome desktop or phosh with all the stuff still possible available with the default installation.

Linux@programming.dev•Noctalia 5 Wayland Desktop Shell Is Now Officially Stable
5·15 days agoCould it look close to gnome-shell? And how well does it integrate with all the xdg-desktop stuff?
I am currently using gdm/gnome/PaperWM because I like the comfort of having all the gnome tooling for everyday use. Can the gnome-control-center still be used with Noctalia?

Linux@programming.dev•Debian Votes To Allow "Responsible Use Of Generative AI"
14·21 days agoYou are not supposed to use online LLMs for undisclosed security stuff; there is no general ban of online services if you can take responsibility for the stuff it produces for the contributor. At least, this is how I read the general resolution.
This is one more reason, that using Debian as my main distro was a good choice.

Linux@programming.dev•Debian Votes To Allow "Responsible Use Of Generative AI"
312·21 days agoThis is good news; Debian is still the way to go for me:
Debian acknowledges that the legal status of material produced by generative AI systems remains the subject of ongoing discussion in many jurisdictions, including questions relating to copyright, authorship, licensing, and potential reproduction of training material. The Project does not seek to resolve these unsettled legal questions through this General Resolution, nor does it adopt a position on whether AI-generated output is, in whole or in part, copyrightable or derived from copyrighted works.
Thanks for telling us; I’ve tried to live with Epiphany for a while but had to move to Firefox for compatibility to certain websites.
If Orion is using GTK4, this looks like a new/second/third/fourth attempt to moving to WebKit. (:

Linux@programming.dev•Finally done with the distro-hop: My return to Fedora
1·2 months agoYeah, Silverblue is nice; not my main distro, though. I came from many years of Gentoo on almost all machines I had. Debian stable is currently the most practical for me.
The immutable variant of Fedora is nice for the low maintenance computers, although I needed to get my head around podman to not overuse
rpm-ostree. So far so good. I think it will not replace the distro on my main machine, but I see the way it works as a general potential future. An immutable variant of Debian stable would be something I’d consider switching for.

I use 1.5-2x the swap on new installations these days. I want hibernate to always work.
