If it’s “free” with a phone number and costs money to use another method (which is another form of PII) then the only explanation I can see is that having your phone number is worth at least $3 more to Signal than having your credit card number. I’ve been using Jellyfin for years, on different hosts. Music has never worked on any of my devices - there’s a bug where you try to play a track and it ignores you and plays the first track off the album instead. You can literally never play anything after that. To be fair, I haven’t tested this in six months, but it was a consistent bug for years before that and I’ve tried every client under the sun. Nowadays I use Jellyfin for video and Navidrome for audio instead and it’s all good.

I’ve heard the name but have not spent the time to find out what it is. I thought it was some immutable distro. I think the same about bazzite and catchy (sp?) which are other distros I see mentioned from time to time and believe are immutable and flatpak-y and that’s all I know. I realise I’m just one data point but I never see a lot about these sorts of distros in my general browsing.

I think a lot of that is to do with how people claim to have written something themselves, and when pressed, admit they used AI for a bit “here and there”, and when double-checked it becomes clear they vibe-coded the whole thing. People lie, basically, and if someone lies about their use of AI that’s probably a harbinger of slop.
