Same here, well I think I did closed as well but it’s been so long. I used to have a lot of fun because I would challenge the difficulty of the game and well the last time I played, it was all nerfed. I had more fun duo’ing VC with my friend starting at lvl 11 and getting to lvl 17 by the time we got there. It was a thorough struggle but it was fun. Or how many times I ran to get a barmans shanker solo. Same with farming whatever that lvl 55 elite Templar or whatever area to get a kroll blade solo as a rogue. And picking professions like enchanting and engineering instead of idk a normal combination. I was kinda bummed to see level requirements for dungeons and elite areas becoming normal. I just wanted to experience some nostalgia.

People eating unhealthy food is partially related to their situation, it could be mental, it could be physical, or simply convenience.
The main thing is to have some form of exercise that people can do and that caters to their energy levels. Granted not everyone can, not everyone wants to. And sometimes, it’s not feasible.
I wrote this in another post; growing up I would eat 5000-10000 (spring vs winter) calories a day and never could get past 125, but I also had gym and track in school, swimming practice, martial arts classes, and a military style torturous daily workout… every day. And I would still go ride bikes with my friends on the street or play tag or whatever. In the winter I would shovel the snow, which would probably be considered child abuse these days. Now I’m not saying do everyone should do that. I even toned down how much I did when I started college but I still practiced to be able to do a triathlon. It’s a shame I broke my leg before being able to try one.
I would eat breakfast, two school lunches, have snacks, eat when I got home, and have second supper. I could easily eat a dominos pizza to by myself (probably did a number on my gut since I learned I can’t eat wheat) and wash it down with some soda.
Now I bring this up because I worked in education briefly and ate lunch with the kids during lunch duty; I can tell you if anyone was as active as I was, I would need at least four lunches to make through the day. Sure it was the healthy lunch implementation, but I the result that I saw was that kids were lethargic and sure it made the classes easy to do since everyone was so docile but I think that was a terrible way to go about it. And I tried their “healthy” lunches out intentionally; if it we’re not for drinking a whole pot of coffee a day, I wouldn’t make it through the 14 hour day (school, after school, and commute).
Also, it’s been so hot this year that my only exercise was mowing the lawn before feeling cooked. I wouldn’t mind going to a pool but it’s more of a hot tub. YMCA has an inside pool but I can’t afford $95 a month. I can’t run anymore because of the metal. And my two bicycles collect dust since I have to go to a trail or a park for biking unless I want to be roadkill, even then I can only do that maybe two to three months out of the year because of how hot it gets.
Even recognizing that people have dietary restrictions is a great start. I can’t eat wheat or lentils, and certain fruits.
Quality, cost, and availability of food is very high on the list. And I’ll be honest, food in America is some of the worst I’ve eaten and it’s even worse lately; I’ve had MREs that tasted better than frozen food that I used to eat as a kid in the US. Mmmm, textured soy protein and emulsifiers.
I felt great and lost weight in Japan, Korea, Ireland, European countries. I was 165 pounds when I got back from Japan. I’m back to 200ish. Sigh. I don’t eat out much and generally cook at home. The issue for me is that meat and dairy have become expensive. And eating rice and beans and vegetables barely gets me by to do daily tasks.
And none of the countries I’ve mentioned are perfect by any means but there is a bigger focus on food health and safety instead of spin the wheel for today’s recall! It’s like I can eat all the raw fish, beef, eggs, raw pork in Germany lol, shellfish and so on but this last year has been wild for food recalls. I mean ice cream? Can’t even trust lettuce or a pepper.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does the average person know that jet fuel is just high grade Kerosene and not some specialized fuel that blows up easily?
1·3 days agoI get that; flying is made to be such a pain now. When I flew ANA, Japan Airlines, or the Redeye; it was nice. Any US flights were torture. Being 6ft tall with back problems, it makes sleeping in cargo feel like a 5 star hotel.
I don’t think it will help with mental health with everything going on these days, that ship has sailed for many.
I have and I’ll take it, please give me some of your cold weather. There’s only so much you can do when it becomes 110 outside. The AC is on permanently to keep it at 85.
Remember buying a “yellow pages style” book of what websites you could go to and half of them didn’t work? lol
Just wait until it turns into pills and you’re still fucked and now worse off. Your brain chemistry might change permanently.
Hard pass.

1·3 days agoYeah I can imagine the rest of business class pays for the flight and economy is just a cherry on top. I mean they keep making the seats smaller to can in more fish. Some older planes you can tell they were fitted with the modern small seats. Paid for the window view? Enjoy your wall view. Then overbooking. And the kicker, your luggage requirements keep shrinking, so they can ship things.

2·3 days agoYou know, I never read it so I can’t say. It looks like it would be a good read. Personally, I research the engines and transmissions as well as what advanced features cars have. I would rather have a car with a cool suspension and a limit slip differential like my Infiniti (Nissan) than all the electronic bells and whistles modern cars have. I used to have a Volvo, I crashed it twice because I was fighting against all of the “safety” features… I’m not sure why they would put in a system to brake one caliper, but then again this was when Ford bought the company. It was fun to momentum drift in the rain even though it was FWD.

12·4 days agoHow much I’ve started to hate technology. It’s like I had smart phones before my peers had flip phones. Same with computers; let me go to the computer graveyard room and put one together for myself. My family was very into tech so I had a computer since I was 5.
I think at this point I’m just not into it. Same with cars; I like my almost thirty year old cars.
lmao you beat me to it. I used to do that to so many people. Hey have you heard of this new political party? Check it out!
Hahaha, I figured you implied so, but getting an actual market wage is even a better motivator!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much further do Americans need to be pushed until they actually do something about rising prices of everything?
2·4 days agoThe most effective is if say “essential” workers got “sick” and didn’t come into work. Imagine if the railway workers all got "sick"again. And truck drivers got “sick” from eating jalapenos, which is pretty pretty possible. And an entire school of teachers got “sick” so parents had to skip out on work. All these people would skip a day of having to buy petrol. It’s risky but the chaos.
I think not buy stuff as much as possible would add to it. So with people staying home even for a day would have a ripple effect.
I mean I’m not OP but I have cut down on spending. Started more car pooling. Quit my high skill job, sorry local businesses one less person that repairs pretty much everything when there’s a massive tech shortage here. Started going to college just to find something else to do. Once my health gets a bit better, thank you Taylor Farms, I’ll get a job within walking distance while I keep going to college. I’ve cut down to almost never going out to eat, only when a friend from overseas visits since it’s easier. Restaurants and fast food place are closing left and right here, in very populated area.
Yep. Now when the fuel light turns on. Tears
It’s getting phased out, I guess it’s only an old people thing nowadays. And well then you have eating live squid in Korea; that’s a hell no for me.

I want to try some Vegemite; don’t worry I have a large jar of Marmite in the fridge, I know what I want.
