It depends on the country, but there’s a self-preservation aspect to academics leaning left. In the USA especially but not exclusively a major right-wing policy point has been defunding academia and publicly-funded research in general. Unless you’re in a field that can reliably pull private funding, such as some branches of the oft-mentioned economics, voting and sharing right-wing talking points carries a major risk of getting your funding cut and leaving you without a job.
Just from the language up top and the reference to multiple orgs I assume this was in reference to the massive federal layoff last year that was presented as a voluntary retirement, but with the implicit threat that you’ll probably be laid off in 6 months if you don’t take it. One of the justifications from DOGE was that we were all more productive now.
Sidephone, key phone, ikko one with the optional keyboard, upcoming clicks communicator, and dumber mini are all modern semi-smart keyboard phones at or below their discounted introductory price for the base model, with similar enough specs in most areas. Most of these are on some sort of privacy AOSP rom too.

Sounds like you want the sidephone then maybe. I think this is a cool idea but there’s like 8 other implementations for hundreds less. Unless the main draw is Linux, but if it’s pushing to run android apps then why not stick with degoogled android like all the others?
I think their stock valuations are typically of the stock they own rather than total stock. Bezos for instance owns 8% of Amazon.
Regardless of the actual amount of guns one sees around and in desks, one thing I think is particularly relevant is how many guns are in American media. I’ve never personally seen a desk gun in the USA, though I do see a fair amount of holstered guns in public, but so many TV shows, movies, and even advertisements have random guns popping up even if it’s not thematically relevant or appropriate.
I mean, I didn’t say world ending, I said species ending. With climate change we have already observed species going extinct at an increasingly quick pace, and it’s hubris to think we couldn’t eventually be one of them if things continue.
Likewise, the potential for nuclear war seems less unlikely than it did 5 years ago, 10, or 20 years ago, and would wipe out many species and could potentially wipe out humanity, or enough of humanity to permanently reshape the species.
The rhetoric of the entire world ending is extremist, but it’s not sci-fi anymore to imagine that in a few generations there may be no recognizable modern humans, even if there are bipedal hominids still roaming around. It’s not even speculative to imagine a world missing many of its current species, just go to any coral reef and compare it to pictures from 50 years ago.
And because we’re facing several potential species-ending threats which hasn’t happened before 1945, and is worse now than it was then.
