It’s really easy to think of examples of that, wow. I don’t fully buy it but i can see how it could be a factor in some civs.
Canadian, sysadmin, trans rights are human rights, puncha-the-nazis, cats are pretty great, GNU Terry Pratchett.

Anne with an E was so good, too.
I loved how they treated the indigenous plotline amd wish it had gotten the space to let that finish.
There’s some fantastic dutch food!
IMO it’s one of those bell curve meme things, with ‘everything is a file’ on both ends. I’ve come back around to it.
I hope this awakens something in you.

My partner makes baconish bits by mixing large coconut flakes with paprika and some other stuff and then crisping it in the oven. Pretty good.
Claimed to be a former Teamster, doubt many Greeks in that union.
Buckwheat pillow is really nice.

Very irnportant when using one hand!

Yeah. What’s worse, is that you can see how it would play out. Suppose, for instance, that we had a wildly successful public program that “solved” homelessness. Imagine that it’s wildly cheaper than the current system! People experiencing housing insecurity get rapid intervention, which prevents a big backlog of people with mental illness on the streets.
Then, give it 20 years. Suddenly, we’re spending all this money on these moochers, giving them “free” housing and treatment. MILLIONS of TAXPAYER DOLLARS being spent!!!1! on these LAYABOUTS who REFUSE TO WORK! Funding is cut.
A few years after that… East Hastings Street is an open-air drug market again and people are afraid to walk down it, and now we’re spending ten times as much money on medical care, property protection, and police clearings. A ton of people who would have been productive citizens, now in a death spiral. So, not paying taxes. =p

Part of the problem is that the first group, untreated, can turn into the second group. Which is why early intervention and support are so important, and a lot cheaper.
When it gets bad, it can take a long time for a policy change to really start working. :(

Well… use certbot’s new dns persistence mode. That may be a few years before it gets in. May be in backports, haven’t checked.

You could say the same of Mozart. Lots of nepo babies turn out good work.
The lack of opportunity is a problem for everyone else. You have to wonder how many Mozarts died in poverty.

Why make it good when you can make it mandatory?

No, it would be a tax on revenues that amazon, facebook, adobe, xitter, etc extract from Canadians. Digital Services. Subscriptions, software, that kind of thing.

Digital. Services. Tax.
We use gitlab (free) for our organization and have definitely noticed the feature creep. It’s a little worrying, and the software has become quite heavy.

Very cool, thanks for the detail.

Not even. The Intel 8008 didn’t even break 1MHz and that was a few years later.
I don’t know what they used on the moon landing, though.
Yeah,.not denying it. Just saying, could be a factor in some cases.
