A few times, all of which I remember being with someone who started with a point of view based on ignorance about the topic and changed their mind because they gained new knowledge and understanding. In all of the cases they didn’t seem too committed to their point of view because of follow up questions and being engaged by asking for more information in more and more nuanced ways.

One person had the opinion that crime stats showed minorities committed more crimes. I presented something that explained how the stats are based on police behavior and decisions prosecutors make that lead to systemic racism. The real point that made it through was the statistic that black people are pulled over disproportionately during the day compared to night, which shows who is driving plays a part. Stop and frisk being targeted into minority neighborhoods resulting in more stops reinforced the police effect on stats.

But that only worked because they were interested in finding out more. I’ve never convinced anyone who dug their heels in immediately.

I have changed my opinion on exchanges between other people, which is how I learned about the cause of the bias in police stats. Hopefully I changed a few minds for the better without hearing about it as well.

There is a varying level of separation dependent on whether the artist is still alive, their contribution to the work, their prominence in how it is presented, and personal emotion about what wss done.

Kevin Spacey was in a lot of great movies and those where he is the lead role are off putting to me. Especially if there are any kind of sexual related themes that are sketchy, like in American Beauty. His relationship with a minor is too close to his actual crimes and that is too much for me. But him voicing a robot in Moon doesn’t ruin the movie for me, although I wish they made an alternate cut with someone else’s voice.

Lovecraft being dead and his works being in the public domain means he is separated from his works because he gains no benefits and his works don’t promote racism. Hitler can’t be separated from mein kampf because it promotes horrible ides of the author.

Other people will have their own lines or none at all if they separate everything.

Increasing and decreasing speeds have different results. A speed tgat seems too slow is not treated the same as one that is too fast.

You are correct that reducing speeds under the speed people drive doesn’t tend to reduce speeds actually driven. Speed limits are not as effective as things thst encourage driving slower.

Increasing speed limits doesn’t mean people ignore the limit and go under the new limit. They do scale up, including those who tend to drive a certain amount over the limit.

Increasing the speed limit is likely to mean people just adjust the level of speeding to match.

If everyone is driving 45 in a 40, increasing it to 45 means they will go 50.

They already design systems that give predictable results and those are complicated and require constant upkeep as things chsnge over time. These systems still have issuee.

Nobody thinks this is a real image in a Kmart. They just dispute whether the obviously fake image was photoshopped or generated by AI.

That does not mean that putting the AI image in that context for humorous purposes was done in AI.

It is also trivial to strip watermarks so checking for watermarks isn’t reliable. Not all gen AI images are even created with watermarks. It’s like checking an optional note from a parent.

We should just call stuff fake if that is what matters. Whether it is gen AI or photoshop is far less important than being fake.

Or, and hear me out, the original image on the buttplug website was AI generated which doesn’t mean the combination of putting it on the Kmart box image was AI generated.

Hobbies all the time. Computer games, camping, painting minis, tabletop gaming, gardening (veggies and stuff), repairing old stuff, play music, read, and all the other stuff that I currently hsve to rotate through because there isn’t enough time to do all of them at the same time.

I was surprised when they added that to android auto and kind of like that the waves let me better estimate how far along the song is. I do think the waves on that are too big, a slight wave would be better. The ability to adjust the waves and turn it off would be best.

Not sure how the wave looks on LineageOS, just commenting on the wavy progress bar concept.
