Technology@lemmy.world•Chrome again exempts Google from user site data settingsEnglish
3·9 days agoThe more I think about this, the more I think it’s a really big problem how much Web surfing runs on Chromium.
It’s why I think Firefox (and forks) are the only real alternative to chrome. Switching to edge, Vivaldi, opera, Helium, brave; none of it truly gets you away from google’s dominance.
I suppose there’s always safari/webkit too, but that’s apple.

Technology@lemmy.world•Discord Is Bringing Back Age Verification for Millions of UsersEnglish
4·10 days agoOh, yes. If I mention that “well you’ve made an account before” they will immediately be convinced.
I am still going to try, don’t take my prior comment as me throwing in the towel, but the chances are slim I’ll be able to convince all the people I’d want to. And even if they make an account, chances are they’ll rarely boot up the app and forget about it.
Discord has a certain critical mass that will be difficult to beat.

I don’t mind making another account, but I’ll have a hard time convincing many of my friends.

Technology@lemmy.world•World's largest open library calls for volunteers to scan and preserve physical books as AI companies buy, scan, and destroy them — Anna's Archive says ‘time is running out’ as ‘knowledge is permanentEnglish
20·23 days agoThose who want to conduct large-scale scans and upload many titles can reach out to the archive for support, as the archive says that it “can help pay for the scanning fees and other rewards.”
That’s never sat right with me either.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google loses final appeal over $4.7 billion EU Android antitrust fineEnglish
2·2 months agoEasy, one pound is 500 grams. An ounce is 100.
TSMC’s market dominance certainly has caused an upward trend in logic chip prices, but they make no RAM, which is the most insane price at the moment.
RAM is made by Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.
Is that a toe or is that just part of his foot? I think it’s the latter.

1·3 months agoWhat does Fennec even do?
When I tried to look into it a few weeks ago I found very little information. The links on the f-droid page went to Mozilla repo’s.

Scanning your spotify library is a marketing stunt, obviously.

3·3 months agoOn my previous coax connection upload was severely limited, even if download went up to gigabit. Now that we have fibre we can get 1 gig up and down.
I was curious what that was:
