I don’t know what country you are from but you weigh in around 118kg which really isn’t that much in the grand scheme of things and unless you are going to go to a sketchy as fuck place you are going to struggle more with getting a pair of shoes to fit you than your weight.

Just look for a bouldering center near to you, where I’m from you don’t need to pay memberships or anything like that. Just find a place, probably book a time slot then rock up and try it for yourself.

Every place I have been supply shoes to rent but that may be more where you have an issue so may be worth asking ahead if they are able to supply you with ones your size. The shoes make a lot of difference to your experience so I recommend using them.

Every place I have been will supply you with a brief tutorial if you haven’t been there before with their rules and then you just knock yourself out and climb. Maybe they do have their own “culture” if you go regularly and start climbing with other people but this is nothing like martial arts. You don’t need a partner and that trust of training and sparring with someone you can just climb by yourself and have fun. I’ve been many times and bar the staff not spoken to anyone at all so if there is some kind of culture I never experienced it :D

Auto vs manual, neither is “better”, it depends more on situation and personal preference. I’d take a manual over auto any day personally.

Power steering vs not again depends on application. I’d rather have no power steering in a little sports car and get more positive feedback but would rather power steering on some heavy unwieldly vehicle.

A map vs sat nav bullshit. I’m guessing more people would argue the latter being “better” in this case but there are plenty of people who would rather read a map and know exactly where they are rather than blindly follow shit.

I mean, you don’t have to buy those absurdly expensive single cards to have fun. I bought my first cards in 1997 and have been playing on and off since then. I have only ever bought pre made decks or booster packs, not once have I even been tempted to buy some stupidly expensive single card.

You can buy a starter pack that comes with two decks for you and a friend to learn to play with for like £15 - 20.

I won’t deny some of the shit it out of control expensive but you don’t need any of that trash to both learn to play and have fun with it!

Typical condescending reply that I expect, yes it is a “skill issue” and I don’t really give a fuck. We don’t all have the same skills or the same levels of interest in acquiring those skills, some of us just want a solution that works easily for their skill level.

It is your kind of attitude as well that puts more people off learning these things because without a real interest in learning these things those kinds of hostilities just put people off of wanting to participate in those circles.

Because I don’t have to learn about things like proxies to try and open the service up outside my network in a secure manner or try to explain to family they need to run tailscale at the same time and then inevitably have to provide tech support for another aspect of “why is this not working?”

I just check allow remote access and it just works and I can go about my day doing things I enjoy more because fucking about with Linux and providing tech support are pretty low on that list for me :)
