Technology@lemmy.world•Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?English
2·22 hours agoRight, but simply staying away from their websites doesn’t really solve the problem. You can ditch Google all you want but you won’t get away from their tracking on just about every third party app and website — they even load scripts on (US) government websites.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Dealing With An Aussie Phone Company
4·2 days agoWhat about my comment led you to that conclusion?
I’m more curious if it’s normal in other places to even have people from the carrier just casually texting customers.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Phones are the new cigarettes: why restaurants are discouraging and even banning them
2·2 days agoOn iOS I use Focus a lot, but for things like theaters, restaurants, etc. the standard Do Not Disturb is enough, and if you use your calendar a lot (like I do so I can tap events on CarPlay to navigate) it’ll give you the option to deactivate the Focus after the event ends, when leaving, etc.

I thought the people in power were promoting AI, especially since they’re the ones investing in it so much.

Linux@programming.dev•Zoom update triggers privacy risk by slurping Linux clipboards
18·3 days agoWhy is Zoom even still popular? Remember when Apple had to push a security update to undo its insane HTTP daemon? I guess we’re all just okay trusting their janky-ass Windows adjacent UI and security model.

Linux@programming.dev•Debian 13.7 “Trixie” Released with 106 Bug Fixes and 107 Security Updates
2·3 days agoOh right it was just last year that I switched. I usually use Alpine Linux so I forget that Debian is so slow sometimes.
But if it was released last year as stable why is this being posted now?
Could this post be titled a bit better?

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Happier to use spices on tofu, beans, soy curls, and even sometimes the dreaded processed plant-based mock-meats (when they go on sale).
2·4 days agoI never liked chicken nuggets until going vegan, lol. The plant-based ones are amazing.
I’m in the US and went to a pretty rundown school in the Midwest, but yeah lunch was pretty much that (choices + salad bar).
I thought it was the Enron logo at first glance
Honestly any website that’s so sketchy it needs to disclose its 14 trillion “partners” is automatically on the shit list from the start. These shouldn’t even be normal.
I study languages for fun and though English can be grating at this point (native speaker but typically in a Spanish/Mandarin environment) one thing I’ll give it is a lot of words do sound like what they mean — and though I’m surely biased as a native speaker there are some words that are just very satisfying:
- boom
- crispy
- crunch
- cut
- slice
- tap
…probably a lot more I can’t think of.

4·8 days agoIt makes you even gayer.

I’ve recently signed up for Ridwell and while I absolutely love it (they recycle electronics by the way, at least in Los Angeles) I hate that I have to pay a private company to recycle things.
