3·27 days agoYes that is poor editorial decision making by the studio to spoil the content. Do you really think about watching a movie and then decide to just watch the trailer instead? I think that the discussion is related to damages resulting from people who will watch a recap instead of watching a show.

3·27 days agoAnd yet drive through restaurant cashiers are able to interact with drivers daily. And toll booth operators as well. The biggest danger from writing a ticket on the side of the road is other vehicles. Police have the discretion of when to escalate a situation. For example, when to attempt an arrest- They can call for backup or wait until the situation can be safely resolved.
If police need to go to therapy and then they should. If they cannot do their job without suffering from trauma then they should resign.

41·27 days agoA recap is for people who have already watched the show and want a reminder or for people who are familiar with the show but want to skip some episodes. A lot of people watch movie trailers and then jokingly say they don’t need to watch the movie because it was all in the trailer. A recap is not a substitute for people who want to watch the show. That’s my opinion.

21·27 days agoI think one of the problems that encompasses the flock debate besides the privacy issues is the relationship that the police have with people in the United States. Most police view people as a threat and if you look at the police training they teach them to be extremely violent. During simple traffic stops most police are on edge and have an attitude like they might be violent with you. I’m just talking about the general atmosphere- I’m not even getting into all of the examples where police have killed people for no reason, falsified information to arrest innocent people, and generally abused their power.
Did police want to wear body cams or did they want to continue without accountability? Police have a responsibility and have taken an oath. They should be required to have cameras.
In a society where all of its parts work together towards the same goal, ALPRs would not be a problem. In the US this surveillance is very worrisome.

2·29 days ago‘The cloud’ to non-IT people is just remote hosting or processing. It’s marketing terminology. Everything with a client \ server where the server was off-site suddenly became “the cloud”. If you have elastic resource computing on site, is it still “the cloud”? Sorry I just never liked the term because it was used so broadly and to generate excitement among non technical people.

Technology@lemmy.world•Week of action planned against license plate readersEnglish
1·1 month agoFlock is selling software called freeform which tracks people’s movements. I don’t know if it can be used on their current cameras or if they need upgrades or new cameras.
Also, flock was planning to use stolen information from a hack against a parking lot company until a news story came out about it. Flock got ahold of the hacked data, that included license plates and names on credit cards, and was planning to use it to identify car owners. After news stories released they said they would not use it but it shows that they are a shady company.
It’s just a loss of privacy. Those old cameras captured plates but now there are flock cameras everywhere and the data they capture is searchable nationwide. The data is being used by ICE to find people they want to arrest. There is little oversight of their use. If police want to track your phone they have to get a warrant and show it to your phone carrier. If they want to track your car they just look it up in flock. A lot of police officers are using flock lookups for their own personal use, like to track people they know.
