Not really, just use something normal that’s there to provide software. Fedora (but remember to install video codecs), Arch (but use the AUR with caution), Debian (if you’re okay with using neolithic-age software), SUSE (European Fedora
with AppArmor instead of SELinux), Void (but software availability can suffer).The BSDs seem cool but it really depends on your hardware if you can run them. NixOS is awesome technology but has problematic business relations[1] so you might want to take a look at GNU Guix.
I’m not totally sure what’s going on there. There was something about a community split between Nix (the package manager) and NixOS (the distro) but I don’t remember which side is which. Using NixOS with Lix instead of Nix might be what you want. ↩︎
