I want minimum latency as I play competitive games and am very sensitive to it. Hyprland has hdr support which is a must for me and on paper should support vrr and tearing aswell. With VRR I had occasional issues but something like tearing was impossible to get working for some reason, kde plasma should do both well but I have gotten used to tiling window managers and don’t really want to give that up.
So id like to know about your setup if you have gotten something like tearing to work or other recommendations.

What is your refresh rate and what FPS are you getting? I’ve never met anyone that wanted to see screen tearing, so this is new… But you have to be getting FPS that outruns your refresh rate to get any tearing, usually by a lot.
I’ve basically never ran vsync or freesync or any of those things, but I haven’t actually seen screen tearing in years because high refresh rate monitors have become basically the norm (outside of office buildings). The FPS needed to cause the tearing is a higher bar to clear, and if there is tearing it is on the screen for such a small fraction of a second you aren’t likely to notice it.
Also, at a point, for most people on modern hardware, the biggest source of latency is “the meat”…
yes in most games i just want freesync to work but my most played games are cs2 and overwatch i r un both easily at 400+ fps on my 240hz monitor and thus i want no kind of vrr involved and jsut the direct frame output to my monitor as quickly as possible. At this high fps tearing isnt really visible anyway its just about the latency
