yeah when I do decide to stop wearing cheap shit I’m probably gonna do sulfur patinated silver. Unsettlingly pale with dark hair and other accents is kind of my signature look but it’s hard to create a contrast with a bright metal. And I want something that’s going to be relatively easy to reapply at home but that’s a little more durable than simple enamel. I can already tell which ones were coated properly vs which ones were just enameled, which is wild amount of variability in quality considering they were all like $2-3.

I’m just not sure where I’m going to get this amount of variety / character out of actual proper jewelry metals without going 100% custom and that’s just not within my means currently. I also have to get mostly split / resizable styles since my fingers are exeptionally skinny, all those split styles you see on the forefingers are brought down to like a 4 from a 6-8, and some of the other styles are split on the underside (which is less ideal since they pinch when I grasp things and I like the split to look intentional where possible)

I also have removable nail cover rings but one of the pinkies popped off the ring and I’m waiting for a friend to make me some custom acrylics anyway. would be super cool to have some solid metal ones someday but again, not feasible right now.

  • I have patients all the time who go on and on about how this or that plastic or adhesive or plastic we have in supply smells bad or irritates their skin. I had raised itchy bumps in the exact shape of the EKG electrode pads for over a week after my ED visit for a panic attack with severe chest pain and shortness of breath and the main thing I regret about that visit is the bill.

If I’m putting EKG leads or a tegaderm on you you’ve got way bigger problems than a rash my dude. And if your problem actually is unserious or alternately terminal enough that it’s more comfortable for you to just suffer in the comfort of your own bed, then just do that. If your problem is benign enough that you can even be worried about a rash more than you are worried about dying painfully from whatever you’re there for, you’re probably lucky enough to have a problem you can handle in the comfort of your own home.

And I’m even talking about serious chronic and terminal disorders. Everybody dies. If you are able to make the decision that you value spending the time given to you on earth in comfort rather than fighting through medical treatments to maybe get more of it then I encourage you to actively choose comfort for yourself. Don’t spend what time you’re given on this earth waffling back and forth between trying to get invasive treatment vs trying to be comfortable and bitching at other people the whole way down trying to make them as miserable as you just because they literally cannot by the physical rules of the universe provide both to you at the same time.

And ffs get a palliative consult. It’s not hospice and you don’t need to be actively on the way out to get it. You can do it at any time. And they’ll make you way more comfortable than you’ll ever get from complaining to a random floor nurse about Band-Aids.

  • I work with a vulnerable population. In addition to every job doing piss testing my fingerprints and DNA get recorded and checked against unsolved assaults / murders. Nothing ever comes up but I always worry I’m gonna be like the last person that touched a vase before the dude that bashed somebody’s head in with it and the dude who did it isn’t in any databases and I’m gonna have to answer a bunch of intrusive questions.
