I was a deckhand on a tug boat for 1 year when I was 18.

Among my coworkers I had the most teeth, the least number of arrests, the least number of ex wives, and the least number of tattoos. I also was involuntarily involved in a felony that ended with one of my coworkers attempting to rape me. Also, working on the river during winter really sucked. Oh, and part of the job involved cleaning fertilizer out of empty barges, so now I have periodic chest scans to look for cancer. One of my other coworkers also tried to light a cigarette whole we were sweeping up the fertilizer dust.

I understood the value of a college education after that year.

Sucks to be a poor.

I thought it was pretty clear that Bob Dylan was God. Did I just read too much into it?

Agreed, people think that a building that large and with that much money going into it is going to need a lot of local employees. When they find out that it just needs a janitorial staff and tons of electricity and water they start to wonder why anyone would want one of these around… especially if it isn’t paying taxes.

It means that data centers will just find a way to have themselves classified as anything except for a data center… meanwhile anyone who happens to have more than 3 computers in their homes will have to pay extra on their electric bills.

I can’t wait for a more sensible Supreme Court to come about so that these AI companies can stand before them and hear that since their models were created using data created by the public, that those models, and everything created by those models are considered Public Domain.

All those people unknowingly create open source software by having Claude help write their code is going to be amazing.

Except that it isn’t. There are many open AI models being created by non-corporate entities, NousResearch is one of the more popular ones. They are dedicated to creating open models for the betterment of all.

And even if you do use open models that were created by a corporation… ok. It isn’t like using those models on your own hardware, on your own network, is going to be providing anything to those corporations.
