3·3 months agoOn no, don’t say you US people use Erin as a guys name as well! Dammit! I can barely understand the difference between how you say Aaron and Erin, and now I can’t even consider whether you lot are refering to a guy or gal to understand which name you mean! Ugh!! I just can’t with you lot! This is worse than losing to you in the soccer! /j

Gee, get a load’a this one, goin round whackin heliocentric planetary systems in people’s yards. Kickin off the gravitational alignment of Earth with their extra “sun and planets” next to the lavender.
I hear they even do dual-star solar systems… pffft… thats just showing off.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I am new here. Scared and Confused
2·3 months agoNah, I’s thinking Piefed, but I’ve never tried it so I’ve no idea how successful that part was. Obviously by your comment not very 😆
I don’t really know why mbin isn’t more popular. I tend to forget about it.

6·3 months agoI’ve recently jumped onto masto as well. It is far more effective for networking. Its horrible as a news/current affairs feed.
I find Lemmy and Masto complement each other well.
Piefed is supposed to be one that brings the two forms of presentation (lemmy style and masto style) together but you’d have to ask a piefed person how effective or useful that is.
I’ve tried Pixelfed as well, really nice people there. Lemmy is full of cynical bastards (like me), Masto seems full of really motivated and productive people, but Pixellfed I found only genuinely nice people.
On the downside, i found it a bit limited. I suppose because it doesn’t really revolve around a social centre (lemmy’s all and local feeds) like Lemmy does so I couldn’t really orient myself very easily there. Maybe because its feed based and there was only one person I knew a little about there.

4·3 months agoI’d change that to fellow citizens, there are more people than voters in a nation. Its important a voter remembers they aren’t only casting that ballot to effect their own lives, but for all, including those that don’t have a capacity or right to vote.
Examples include children, recent migrants, certain disabled persons.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does Lemmy feel hostile and/or insular to you?
5·3 months agoThis user manages one of those fantasticly refreshing and nice communities here on Lemmy by the way. These niche communities are here, you’ve just gotta dig a bit. Lemmy is a bit like a stuffy old second-hand bookshop, theres gold in those there shelves… somewhere.

Technology@lemmy.world•'Everyone is unhappy': Meta employees describe a grim environment as the company reportedly prepares to axe roughly 8,000 workersEnglish
1·4 months agoI think awareness of the Fediverse, or the social web, is much lower than the people involved would assume. I’d think people in tech would have a greater awareness, but maybe thats not even a true assumption.

Technology@lemmy.world•'Everyone is unhappy': Meta employees describe a grim environment as the company reportedly prepares to axe roughly 8,000 workersEnglish
0·4 months agoThats 8000 people with experience running social media that could use their knowledge and wealth to build the Fediverse and competitively reduce Meta’s monopoly.
If even a small group of them realise the agency they have, it could be damaging to Meta, and an acceptable form of growth for the Fediverse as a whole.
I’m assuming anybody that works at Meta still now must be so signed up to their horrible practices, so i don’t expect much from former Meta employees. I’d be happy to be surprised though.
