Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can I best help prevent people from committing suicide?
5·9 days agoSuicide hotlines are very much still a thing, and you typically don’t need any kind of license or degree. I think many are volunteers.
There are also likely outreach programs in your area, if you search for them, and they frequently need volunteers. Helping people to access services is one of the more effective ways to prevent deaths, especially for high-risk populations like: addiction, lgbt, homeless.
If you’re looking to make a (paying) career change for this, there are also entry level jobs in behavioral health at inpatient and outpatient centers.

People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•Early internet nostalgia
57·12 days agoYeah, I want to interact with people who are making/sharing stuff for the love of the game, not trying to be influencers or sell me something.

13·12 days agoYou can, but to me it feels different when you’re cutting yourself off from things intentionally vs when it was just the expected default.
Reverse image search is giving me nothing but a reddit thread where people were trying to figure out the same thing 3 years ago. They said that it looks like Skinner’s desk, so it’s a scene at the school.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Left Wing Rage # Right Wing Rage
7·17 days agoI personally tire of the politics too, but there isn’t a “no politics” rule in lemmyshitpost, so it’s fair game. People have brought it up before, but it seems like the wider community prefers the less restrictive posting rules.
Don’t even joke about that
It’s bean too long.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Sometimes you just have to know
31·21 days agoYeah, I’d probably hide in the walls this time. Maybe even the attic.
The universe wants peanut butter today, apparently.
Of course! But you lose your warranty because of corporate greed.
It’s a good word to learn. Thank you.
(excuse me, I just need to google something totally unrelated really quick…)
Ah, yes! It is indeed my eponymous maneuver.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Sending an AI generated email to be read by an AI summary agent. Who needs humans
17·23 days agoYou know, I’ve seen people use the “Chinese Room” thought experiment to argue whether AI is actually thinking or just an intermediary with a workflow, but perhaps we are the ones in the room. Uh oh.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•VR controls are the worst
10·25 days agoBasically nobody would switch hands and aim with the other eye like that. You have a dominant hand and eye when shooting.
He could be ambidextrous, I guess, but it’s still very unnatural to do this.
(edit: and yes, the floating stock, lol)

4·26 days agoAt least if some burglar broke into your house, they’d be immediately entranced, and you’d be safe.

29·26 days agoHere’s the formatting. Voyager makes it easy though. You just choose “spoiler” when writing a comment, and it sets it up for you.

Tap for spoiler
Or you’re going for the double bluff… In which case, touché.

You get dancing penguins either way.
