I live in the US. I’ve seen black bears in the wild a couple of times, and personally I don’t have a lot of actual fear when it comes to them. I respect that they’re totally capable of hurting me severely, but also I know they are mostly harmless to humans and just want to be left alone. Grizzly bears scare me a lot. I’ve not seen one yet but I’ve been near them a couple times. They are far more likely to be aggressive. Realistically though, for us, carnivores aren’t the biggest concern most of the time. Bison, mooses, and even deer can be deadly.

Lions in africa and other big cats freaks me out a lot. Luckily we don’t have many big cats here and the ones we do have make themselves very scarce.

Sure. That is largely based on what you’re used to. Africans also have tons of mostly deadly snakes. None of them seem concerned talking to me about it, despite losing a dog every year or two to venomous snakes.

Yeah, large carnivores not so much. Apparently dingos and tasmanian devils are the closest in that department. I’ve just always thought of Australia as a place of greatest concern in terms of animals due to the many deadly snakes and spiders they have.

Ubuntu does some things people don’t like, but as a first distro I wouldn’t agree that those things matter much. Especially considering that it’s by far the most supported distro. Most Ubuntu support applies to Ubuntu based distros, like pop os, which I also would recommend personally. Distro choice both matters and doesn’t, with the caveat that it mostly matters what it’s based on. Ubuntu based is going to give you all the easiest software support.

Many unpleasant things are worse when we see them in real time. It is enraging though. I’m wanting to build or buy a PC soon and it’s outrageous. Memory prices for what I bought five years ago ought to be half or less now. Instead, last I checked it had increased by like 30%. My point was that it’s flat out wrong to think Claude doesn’t “forget” anything. It constantly does. I wasn’t correcting them based on pedantry but just plain old black and white fact which remains regardless of word choice

I understand that ai is not sentient. Are we so pedantic now that I have to prove I don’t believe ai is true genius even though I’m a mod here? Perhaps if I said “the model was trained on data that made it…” I would be ok? Or we could just know that people bend the meaning of words at times and when it’s clear what they meant, we don’t have to die on any hills about it.

Wine is entirely doing it I think, my understanding is the runner is just a fancy configuration tool that makes it easier to get specific things running. Wine has reversed engineered so much and it works great, but sometimes you may need to set several config values to something for a particular app to work right. Imo getting the current office suite running is probably more impressive than any non-game app out there. It’s using wine on hard mode.
