  • I live in the US. I’ve seen black bears in the wild a couple of times, and personally I don’t have a lot of actual fear when it comes to them. I respect that they’re totally capable of hurting me severely, but also I know they are mostly harmless to humans and just want to be left alone. Grizzly bears scare me a lot. I’ve not seen one yet but I’ve been near them a couple times. They are far more likely to be aggressive. Realistically though, for us, carnivores aren’t the biggest concern most of the time. Bison, mooses, and even deer can be deadly.

Lions in africa and other big cats freaks me out a lot. Luckily we don’t have many big cats here and the ones we do have make themselves very scarce.

Ubuntu does some things people don’t like, but as a first distro I wouldn’t agree that those things matter much. Especially considering that it’s by far the most supported distro. Most Ubuntu support applies to Ubuntu based distros, like pop os, which I also would recommend personally. Distro choice both matters and doesn’t, with the caveat that it mostly matters what it’s based on. Ubuntu based is going to give you all the easiest software support.

  • Wine is entirely doing it I think, my understanding is the runner is just a fancy configuration tool that makes it easier to get specific things running. Wine has reversed engineered so much and it works great, but sometimes you may need to set several config values to something for a particular app to work right. Imo getting the current office suite running is probably more impressive than any non-game app out there. It’s using wine on hard mode.
