My spouse sent me this rage bait photo. It wasn’t even the ego rubbing graphic on the front page that got me (though that’s bad enough). It’s’ the “Moral panic over data centres” that really gets my goat. Ah yes, it’s the moral panic that’s the issue, right? Right?!
The Economist has always been a corporate rag, but this is so much worse than 20 years ago.
Ugh, don’t give this nerd (derogatory) any more lame delusions of grandeur.
Everyone these corporate rags hold up as a visionary genius later gets disgraced. This will be no exception.
Hyping stock price is the only thing we respect in our nihilistic society.
A moral panic is distinct because it’s a false threat that actually distracts from real dangers as it maintains the status quo. It’s wave of “witch hunting” and “scapegoating.”
If anything, the AI doomer bullshit about “AGI will kill (most of) us (not me tho because I’m a good believer)” is the moral panic.
Side rage: I really doubt what’s his face is actually doing any meaningful r&d work. I assume there’s a legion of nameless engineers and researchers who are not keeping the profits of their work.
moral panic over killing people lol
NGL that is an awesome front cover. If only it wasn’t of an asshole that encourages making life worse for everyone
Take The Economist seriously, challenge IMPOSSIBLE!

Is he conjuring all of the world’s RAM hardware into a single point in this image? That would explain where it all went.
Maybe he’s eating it
