I like to tinker with things (a bit), and do thing with my devices that make my friends confounded
I have heard that you can flash the tufa bulbs with localTuya, so if you are comfortable with flashing your stuff, that might be an option. I haven’t tried it myself though, not quite there yet on a skill or comfort level. I now use openhab, so I don’t know if it would work the same, but openhab used the cloud only for discovery and does local control, as per the information on the binding. I don’t know if it works the same way in homeassistant.
from what I heard (I may be misremembering some things), there was a lemmy theme that had a file included in it with a bunch of instances (iirc) and users that got hidden (maybe it was more severe than just hiding? ). I think all this stemmed from a personal vendetta that the theme creator had.

yeah. also under 30, but my family has a bunch os old technology kicking around. I used Windows Vista on an old HP Media Center PC for a while, we have a few floppy discs lying around, along with an old Compaq Presario running Windows ME. from my experience, it wasn’t so bad? currently, I’m obsessed by a Casio digital organizer from ~1969. the topic of this post has escaped me quite a while back (sorry for that), but yes, things were quite fun from back then. Is it weird/ unusual/ odd that I miss those times even though I never lived through them?
I actually did this a few years back, and I do NOT recommend. it tasted way different from what it smelled like. (iirc, kinda bitter/pungent was the only thing I remember)
the way I’ve gotten around this is email notifications. IG it would be up to the app to implement push notifications?
on piefed, you can do this for every comment. there is a little bell on the bottom right of the comment (in the web ui) which let’s you turn notifications on/off

sheesh, they really are unhinged. thank goodness I blocked them almost immediately upon joining since I heard about them, but this is something we need to improve on imo, perhaps a sort of warning?
doubt it will happen though, since Lemmy devs are the instance admins, but maybe on some neutral instance chooser site or the other? (may already exist and I don’t know about it)
You could try rnote and xournalpp for PDF annotation. It works pretty well in my expeience for handwriting. I’d reccommend rnote over xournalpp since it can directly save to pdf (iirc), and you can also have an infinite canvas, so it would also be a good OneNote replacement in that department. For popup notes, inline text and stuff, okular from KDE works pretty well for me, but I have also heard good things about the GNOME pdf viewer (UI wise). Haven’t used the GNOME pdf viewer though, so can’t attest to features.

it’s not an exclusive feature, as you can you can do this on most if not all distros. it’s just that Debian is better suited to server (this is a bit objective) since the packages are less likely to change and break on you (so reliability and stability)

Outside of SteamOS idk if Linux (not Android) had slick console/SmartTV-like DEs/system-wide GUIs. But since the problem is on the surface, I believe there are some who tried, or configured/themed their environment to act like it. kde-bigscreen is available, and has that sort of ui, but does require some setup. Also don’t know how available it is. I believe it is already in some repos.

I am thinking of blocking YT shorts, even if some of the information might be useful, cause there’s just a lot of AI slop, though not as much as there used to be. if before I was distasteful of AI slop, I watched this documentary from DW on it, where they showcased the slop that AI could produce, which was kind of eye opening to me. it increased my distaste for it more, it clearly showcased the soullessness of it.
