Hey! OMG thank you for posting this. I have a redmi device too from a few years ago. Tried unlocking it but ran into an issue with the boot loader - apparently it needed to be unlocked with a real SIM and the device is an Indian market device (hand me down from a relative) and doesn’t support the network bands in the market I’m in. So I could never get the process completed.

So this is a TL:DR dumb question because maybe you covered it in your write up, but I’m a noob in this space so I don’t know what I don’t know to look for - how did you unlock the bootloader?

I don’t want to run desktop Linux on it. Maybe use it as a miniPC server or as I was thinking back then - install Ubuntu mobileOS on it.

See if you can use ZeroTier. It doesn’t use wire guard but rather their own protocol as far as I know.
