It does install correctly for your distro, and that way is full system access .deb file, flatpak is next best from what I read but when I setup my system VR required the .deb as flatpak and snap would not grant correct permissions and I am so far removed from when I used to live on the command line that I have forgotten many many things I used to take for granted. No longer a power user, I just want it to work

Only reason, may be moot now, to use the .deb/.rpm/whatever is for VR as it is a little picky. Same as you I use flatpak for everything else where possible, lutris/bottles/emulators, just remember to also install flatseal to edit permissions (I store some stuff on an external drive, like downloads/videos and VR steam games I’m not playing but will and don’t want to wait an hour or more to get, so had to add the path)

Oh! just remembered that somehow protonGE was installed (lutris or bottles? maybe fixing stuff while drunk) and steam picked it up and now plays videos in UE games, maybe a second reason? I’m wondering how that works but am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, those teeth are scary.

Kubuntu, once setup, is a very reliable system. I use it to stream VR games.

Remove the Default from snaps and change it to flatpak, fairly quick and painless to put flatpak on, remember flatseal as well to modify permissions. Then only use snaps if there is no flatpak version and you don’t want it to have full access to the system. After a couple issues with Lutris and one weird issue that resolved itself with an update the GF has bothered me less with linux than windows. Just ensure everything is setup before you leave them the pc, including an auto back up routine.

Not exactly the same, but there is not a great handle on auto pay either. I pay a sub for the gf on ESO, the CC they have on file expired at least 1 CC cycle ago and they are still happily taking the money for her sub, on one hand WTAF??? on the other hand since she plays it all the time I just let it slide, when I get my next renewed CC I will ask my bank why they are allowing an expired card to still function. So far as my physical cards I always cut the mag strip in half and then several pieces, and the chip once in half.

I discovered this bloody annoyance in XP I believe, or maybe was 98. The way I used to get rid of it was to start the install of whatever OS, format the drive in one large partition, reboot, then install whatever OS I was going to install and partition accordingly. Took a few extra minutes but well worth it vs doing the whole install and remove files later/tell current OS to ignore other files.
